A kidney biopsy specimen taken from a patient with acute glomerulonephritis and stained with fluorescein-conjugated anti-human IgG antibody would probably show A. no fluorescence. B. uniform fluorescence of the glomerular basement membrane. C. patchy, irregular fluorescence of the glomerular basement membrane D. fluorescent B cells. E. fluorescent macrophages

C (post streptococcal) I think poststreptococcal is the commonest unless the question mentions anything about others. (hypocomplement- Membrano, hemoptysis- good pasture etc) http://www.merck.com/mrkshared/mmanual/tables/231... a nice listing of findings

I am not sure which is the commonest glomerulnephritis, but C is probably right because except Good PAstures (which is antibasement membrane),all other immunecomplexes will be irregular.

Id say meg answered this. This off the subject, but Ive seen a semi colorful pic displaying linear immunofluorescence-and that was suppose to be Goodpastures Disease.

In Good pasture, we see linear because it is Anti-Basement membrane Ab, hence entire BM will immunoflourescence, in all other immunecomplex conditions, it will be patchy because the antigen is not the BM

The answer is A, remember the acute glomerulonephritis is most commonlly secondary to group A B hemolytic strep, so u see immune complexes on subepithelial side of BM, and since its an acute condition there's no time for reactive BM thickening leading to the term "subepithelial humps"...so you'll find immunoflorescent patches on flourstain.

which is the commonest acute glomerulonephritis, is it IgA (Bergers- post upper respiratory tract infection~ Henoch Schonlein) or poststrep? In India, I always thought it was post strep. Here, somewhere I found that it is IgA... what is the commonest here? is IgA correct?
