I am getting a chance to do a subspeciality rotation in Cardiology in the month of August. One of the attendings I talked to mentioned that this would a very good addition to my CV. To put things in perspective: Around the 1st week of August I would be done with Step 2 CK (already done with Step 1 and CS) and I have to start out with a research job in September so I was hoping to utilize the month of August for my Step 3 prep as well focus on sending out my application in time. My 4 LORs are already accounted for so getting one out of this rotation is optional and I already have 3 months of observership experience at a nearby hospital. so my dilema is do I go for this rotation (and spend my VERY precious and limited $$$ on travel and accomodation) or stay put and focus on studying for my Step 3 / application and getting it out of the way... Is having your Step 3 scores in hand a good/equal substitute for missing out on a rotation like this...Any help would be very appreciated...thanks!

If I had the chance I would have gone for the subspecialty. You could take step 3 later on

You only need step three for an H visa. Take the rotation - it will help your CV

not havin ur s3 score by sept wont hurt u.. but try to give the exam and get ur scores by the time of dec when ur in ur iviews in full swing.. however if ur resources are limited - like ur on a fixed budget of so and so $$$ - then spend the cash on applyin to more progs rather than doin an extra month of usce..bcoz i know 1 month on ur own in usa for usce costs around 1k.. thats cud cover a lot of ur application and iviewin costs.. not playin the devils advocate.. apurva
