do u have to pass step 3 and have a state license to be apply for for fellowship? also do u have to send ur application of fellowship 2 years before the start date of fellowship?

Hi Silky, I don`t know if every fellowship follows the same rules, but I have been accepted as a fellow without step 3. I am IMG and did residency in my home country. I applied for a temporary state licence and for this you don`t need to have taken step 3. I hope this help you. Good luck.

hi,mmd which fellowship are you joining?whats ur branch during residency?is it possible for imgs with im residency to get into direct fellowships and not have to redo residency and also get liscence to work in u.s?

Hi Brown, It is theoretically possible to do a fellowship without doing residency in US ( the prove is the fact that I`ve got this position). I looked at the specialty american association and read that in this case I was not allowed to join the match, since I am not board elligible, but I could contact the program directors to ask individual programs if they accepted IMGs to apply. I have got 5 positive replies and applied (outside the match). You can`t have a permanent medical licence without doing residency in US since you won`t be board certified, but this is not a problem, since I am planing to get back to my country after the fellowship.
