I am going to start immuno now .I took whole day yesterday off and half day today .Hopefully i will study till 8 tonight and lets see.Weekends are a bit slow and monday is a labor day holiday .So everyone is home
Immunology reading and then probably a block or 2 .

Hi Step12006
My situation is almost the same, though i finished the med university in russia in 2002, moved to the uk then and have been working in pharm industry since then. I am just starting to prepare for the exams. Wanted to ask a coupl of questions if don't mind:
1. Is there a precise list books to be read when preparinf for the exams?
2. Any othe activities apart from books?
3. How much time do you think is needed to prepare for Step 1?

Hi dim.zam,
Yes ,it is always better to stick with precise set of books which include kaplan lecture possibly with videos ,FA and qbank in last three months .
Then it's just lots of repitition .I am still preparing so not really the best person to advice but i would say if you have no other engagements in life ,then 6 months are adequate .I personally started going through books in feb but was studying about 4 hrs only .Picked up speed to about 7 hrs in may .Even now i can't really do much on weekends .So precisely i study 5 days a week 8hrs for now .
I personally believe if you have no other engagements ,concentrate on exam for 6 months and get over with it .The longer it lingers,the harder it gets.

Tomorrow is cardiovascular .Not very excited about immunology score .Improved by about 18% but it might be just because i have done the q's before.

I read through CV quickly .I didn't study yesterday evening .Had the worst headache ever .Starting off now .I am going to do blocks on CV- one of my weak areas .
Then i will take it from there .I had plans to start endo today but i guess it's going to roll over to tomorrow .

Still in CV .I have to revise the wrong q's still .It's my weakest but i am trying to improve .I have to start respiratory system by 12 o clock so i better hurry up .Yesterday
was a hard day .My daughter is really demanding attention now .She threw a big tantrum last night .I know i'm not the perfect mother at this point but i want to finish this exam so i can spend some time with her .Working and taking care of kids is a lot different than prep for exam and taking care .Cause exam is always weighing heavy on your mind no matter what you are doing.But this can't pull me down .I am going to overcome this obstacle .I'm not giving up no matter how hard it gets .

Still revising Endocrinology .Will revise it till around 10 and then move to GI.

Thanks Drbin .We need all the motivation we can get .These quotes really help me see beyond the problems ,clearly towards my goal .
I callled my Dad for these last months .My daughter was really not getting any attention .Atleast she will have her grandpa close by .These days the whole house is upside down .I used to be such a cleaniness freak .Now i just close my eyes and think about exam.The whole family is eating frozen meals ,but not complaining .God bless them for being so nice to me .
I hope i won't disappoint them .I postponed my exam ,actually i had to get the eligibility extended .I havent recived any new permit though .Wonder if they do send a new scheduling number or i have to use the old one .
I tried to call ecfmg .Somehow it always says' high vol of phone calls .Please try again.'
Rest doing Musculosk .Hope i can do this .I have to do this .I don't really have a choice as the matter of fact .

So today is neurology /psychiatry .
I rescheduled exam for nov 7 .I couldn't find any date for october .It's tuesday .So i will have to drive myself to testing center .I hope my driving abilities won't be impaired because of stress.Or maybe i should take a cab .
Let's see.Back to study

Today respiratory,reproductive ,renal .
Let's see how it goes .I have to give NBME by 28 sept to see where i stand .I have been avoiding it forever .So i want to speed up the prep.

Today is one of those blue days .I took a test last night and scored a lot lower than before although i have been studying !!I left my baby and day care and came home and Just cried ,cried and cried .I just almost gave up but i can't .I have responsibilities and i need to do this . i am very lost right now .I am wondering if something is really wrong with me .I used to be a good student in med school but it's even hard to belive it is the same person now .
But i am done with crying .I need to get up and work.I am planning to finish q bank mixed blocks by end of this month as i want to give nbme no matter how low score it is .Let it come .I need to face it .

seems like my own words 5 or 6 days back. its a part of this damn exam u know, bad days good days, confident days, blue days. some moment u feel like this is impossible and u will never do it, later u feel this is very doable and u r smart. seems like everybody has it. may be people who scored 99 even had these thoughts during prep. so dont get disheartened by low scores, we can improve, just go thru it once again and believe me it will make difference.
