keepgoing, as dr lionel says.. types of dna in nature is not really tested in d exam but just fr info, there r 5 types... B,D,A,C &Z. we need to know only B-dna

n dna replication occurs in S phase

If I understood correctly it is 2.

lily, i understood supercoiling by using 2 ribbons as Dna strands. as replication proceeds, strands open out n so so supercoiling goes on increasing. thats +ve supercoiling i.e. coiling in right handed way tightening d strand.

now, hold d ribbons till d part u have unravelled during replication. that part is relaxed DNA. the tightly coiled part is +vely supercoiled. hold tight \ly coiled part n cut it in b/w
then rotate d strands in direction opposite to tight coiling. now, u r DNA gyrase n introducing -ve supercoils to relieve +ve supercoiling.

its kinda diff to explain it in words. try it urself n u'll understand

for lily2008
neg----if DNA is loosely wound than actual in WATSON-CRICK model
positive---id DNA more tightly wound
relax---when enzyme TOPOISOMERAES is added to unwind those supercoils by making transient breaks...

LillY:

DNA gyrase introduses negatively supercoil (looselu than watson) into relaxed DNA.
DNA Topoisomerase1 does the reverse.

Positeve supercoil is tighter than watson& crick.

Did that helpyou?
