For first three of us had said C, INDIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII madmadmadmadmad

  #977

oops..shocked sorry mytime.. i meant TPR.. didn't check the choices again..
So 1-c bcoz C.O. is directly proportional to TPR

wrong indidoc...its opposite...check kaplan notes... how co can be incraesed 1st if we increase flow flow how?wn we dilatte vessels and 2nd if we increase heart rate..and thats how??chemoreceptors.....but incraese tpr menas we are decreasing vessels diameter i.e constriction which means dec flow..

Hey guys, I thought TPR decreases in anemia shocked

And I always thought that CO was inversely proportional to TPR.

The cause of reduced vascular resistance in anemia is not clear and it is thought taht endothelium derived relaxation factor (NO) is released in anemia causing vascular dilation.

OMG , if TPR is increased in anemia and TPR is directly proportional to Co, then it is a great big hole in my very little knowledge. Please correct me and give some references.confused

nope unique u r abso rt Co is inverly pro to tpr and in anemia tpr decreases i 100% agree with u..and think same...decrase in o2 -->hypoxia--->stimulate local receptors -->dilate --->inc blood flow...

except a all options should be dec in anemia..

maean art pressure is directly prop to tpr but not CO indid check physio....

MAP=CO X TPR

OK guys...... u keep fighting my ans. is now E. tissue oxygen tension......something gotta stimulate the entire process so u have it now. I'm sure FOCUS and NNL agree!winkgrin

  #984

Look the problem is that they are not asking wht happens in Inc. Cardiac Output but they r asking whts the driving mechanism behind the increase in CO, so after much delibration i think th eanswer shud be E cos the Tissue O2 tension is one the drives the Heart n TPR to work with each other. In other words In Anemia 2 simultaneous physiological things happen at once INC CO n DEC TPR but wht drives these 2 mechanisms to act together n that can only be EXPLAINED ONE PHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSE DEC TISSUE O2 or Tissue Hypoxia or Tissue O2 Tension

Here is a couple of Links which might explain u the concept

Please read the question again.

An increase in which of the following best explains the mechanism
by which the cardiac output increases in severe anemia?
A. Arteriolar diameter
B. Blood viscosity
C. Peripheral vascular resistance
D. Splanchnic blood flow
E. Tissue oxygen tension

Does tissue O2 tension increase in anemia?raised eyebrowshocked

Damn !!!!!!!!!
UNIQUE u r right i missed the total point of the question n i made a huge mistake of overthinking Didnt FOCUS on the Inc part of the question totally missed it U GUYS R RIGHT !!!
Moral of the Story as Mytime puts it well These one line questions r the trickest ones to approach cos not much clues so its mostly where they trick us

Finally after lot of brain wrecking n going thru almost every aspect of the theories i had gone thru with Mytime, Focus, Indi i found the answer to Q4 its the " LOCKED IN Syndrome" caused by the basilar artey occulsion affecting the Pons Area SO the answer is D. i was led to the answer by Luckyall ( Big big THanks Buddy)

Basilar artery syndrome: Caused by complete basilar artery occlusion, this is characterized by the following:
    • Locked-in state (awake quadriplegia)
    • Paralysis or weakness of all extremities
    • Horizontal gaze paresis, stupor, coma

Its there in HY Neuro Anatomy

1. 74-year-old woman with multiple myeloma is being treated with high
doses of doxorubicin (Adriamycin). She has also received cyclophosphamide
and prednisone recently. During his examination, the physician should
check the patient for
A. abdominal tenderness
B. bladder distention
C. limitation of movement
D. papilledema
E. pulmonary rales

2.During the isolation of Met-enkephalin (Tyr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Met) from
post-mortem human brain tissue, researchers find that the peptide
is rapidly degraded by peptidases in 1 minute at 37 C. Detailed
analysis of the peptide cleavage pattern of Met-enkephalin is
investigated with two candidate enzymes. Using the drug bestatin,
the investigators found no detectable Tyr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Met but did
find significant concentrations of Tyr-Gly-Gly. Using thiorphan,
there was no detectable Tyr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Met, but there was a hig
h concentration of Tyr. Which of the following is the best conclusion
about Met-enkephalin metabolism that can be drawn from these data?

A. Bestatin inhibits an aminopeptidase, and thiorphan inhibits an endopeptidase in the degradative pathway
B. Bestatin inhibits a carboxypeptidase in the degradative pathway
C. Bestatin inhibits an endopeptidase in the degradative pathway
D. Thiorphan inhibits an aminopeptidase, and bestatin inhibits an endopeptidase in the degradative pathway
E. Thiorphan inhibits an aminopeptidase in the degradative pathway

3.29A 20-year-old man with new onset of seizures and no history of
hypertension is evaluated with a contrast-enhanced CT scan of the
head, which demonstrates a mixed parenchymal and subarachnoid hemorrhage.
The parenchymal hemorrhage is centered over one cerebral hemisphere.
Which of the following is the most likely source of the hemorrhage?
A. Arteriovenous malformation
B. Berry aneurysm
C. Bridging vein
D. Charcot-Bouchard aneurysm
E. Middle meningeal artery

4.Physical examination of a neonate demonstrates abnormal facies with a
small lower jaw, low-set ears, and a prominent occiput. The feet have a
rocker-bottom deformation, and the infant is hypertonic. Cardiac
evaluation demonstrates a ventricular septal defect. Which of the
following is the average life-span for infants with this neonate's
syndrome?
A. 2-3 months
B. 1-2 years
C. 4-7 years
D. 15-25 years
E. Normal life expectancy

5.Tay-Sachs disease, an autosomal recessive disease caused by a
deficiency of hexosaminidase A, is lethal in childhood. In a
population of Ashkenazi Jews, blood testing shows the frequency
of heterozygotes to be 0.1. What is the probability that the
first child of two individuals from this population with no
family history of the disease will have Tay-Sachs?
A. 0.25
B. 0.11
C. 0.0625
D. 0.0025
E. Cannot be calculated from the information given
