Hi guys, i am happy that everyone is keeping reading, it's a good start except me . I moved during the holidays, that's why I did not have time to read. I've done the first couple chapters so far. I wish I could finish all 7 chapters by tomorrow, I have to, because I want to keep in this group. Thanks Coolsuch and indidoc1, I got the notes book, but it really take lots of time to print. I think the answer for the question is B. Thanks for the questions, I wish I could contribute some too.

Hi Guys,
Thanks Indidoc & all for welcoming us. I couldnt post a msg earlier as there was something wrong with my password. I am glad it resolved, thanks to Novak for helping me. Our task for the week was the first 7 chapters of biochem. I am doing it from Kaplan & am referring lippincott for places where i get stuck. I am on chapter 5 right now,so its 2 more chapters to go till tomorrow.

hey focususmle. u certainly appear to be pretty focussed. lol started after we did n have done 5 chapters. gr8 work. i m on chap-6 now so we should be good for our deadline.
Lily, go fr it. if u can give a LONG sitting, its only abt a 100 pages.
certainly u can budge in unique1, we'll leave the door open
coolsuch,yolanda,novak,focususmle,oncogene n all frnds, come on , try the question. so far only 2 frm our group hav tried it. post an ans, whether u r confident or not. it'll help.

Hi everyone:
I was happier earlier as I was able to do some reading while at workand came home to continue the race. But as soon as I got home my husband had a lot of runnings for me to do. By the time I finished I felt tired, tried to study but did not manage to finish chapter 4. I have decided to turn myself in and try to wake up early and get a few pages in. I am planning on a more productive day tomorrow. I am not sure about reaching the target but I want to get very close and not let thhe group down.
I get very fustrated when I can follow up with my study plan. What to do???

hi zade. i just logged in to see if anyone's around.
don't get frustated gal, its a long road ahead.
keep at it. i suggest u to talk to ur husband n prioritise something like 5-6 hours fr study-may be study late nite or early morning but u gotta have some quality time per day.
i also have another suggestion- try getting an ipod/mp3 player n load audio lects on it. this way, u can listen to lectures on way to work n in breaks. i m thinking abt getting one myself.
frustration will only slow u down.nothing gained
but if u continue studying, a rhythm of study will start developing n u'll pick up speed. just gotta keep going.

Hi guys,
 , I am depressed .I am still on chap 2 and going back and forth with chap 1 as I feel I have not understood much.I have my distractions too.
I am frustrated with the kapaln notes .Why am I not able to understand?????I dont have any basic book for biochem or molecular bio to clear my concepts.I think I am goona try and get hold of it today.Sorry guys,I am sure I will be done soon.I get frustrated if I dont understand the concepts or some basic stuff as its been while since i read.Any suggestions.

Hi coolsuch,
I agree with jaide, I think you should get the kaplan dvds.First read a chapter & then watch
the corresponding dvd & then read that chapter again. This way you will understand the concepts.

Hi coolsuch,
Please do not feel frustrated. I agree with Jaide and dama. It's the first time for me to read the Kaplan, it's an outline, it's hard to understand everything if you learned the bioche long time ago and almost forget everything(like me ). Since it's lecture note, it should go with the lecture. Try it. Be positive, you said bioche is your worst part, after you're done with this part, you'll feel great with other subject.
Although I said be positive I feel frustrated too. I am a slow reader and it's hard for me to focus on this, always have too many things need be done, job, kid, homework.....,so can't have enough time to read. But, we need do our best.

Thanx guys for allowing me to peek into your study group .
Coolsuch don't be discouraged. I was in a situation worse than yours when I started biochem. I have given my two cents in thread " old img? " in response to your question. Pleas have a look on that.
My humble advice to you is to try getting videos on ebay. What I do is first I give a quick reading from Lippincott , then read the same topic from kaplan , then listen to the lecture while jotting down important points in the lecture notes and then go thru the chapter again . No doubt it takes me a whole lot of time but I feel it is worth my time.
Good luck everyone and keep studying ...... WE CAN DO IT.......

Thanx for your advice. I will take your advice in consideration. I was able to do some study at work again today. I came home and told my family that I was unaivalable tonite and do hope to put these hours to good use. Things are not fresh in my mind like you but I am trying to keep up. I am on chapter 4 and do hope to finish it tonite and maybe part of 5. Btw Great Idea about the MP3, I wasalso thinking about putting the lectures on my MP3 since I spend alot of valuable time in my car driving to and from. I already have one that is collecting a lot of dust. I will keep you posted.

Do not despair. When I tried to study for these exams long time ago, I paid a lot of money to the Kaplan center. I was a regular and went there faithfully every day and did the tapes. I felt like I was running a race. It was important for me to finish the tapes. Well I did all the tapes but I never read the chapters. No need to tell you that it was a waste of my time and money-- I did not take the exam --
Now I read first then I listen to the dvds and things make a lot of sense and it is easier. I am able to follow the lecturer. I am actually enjoying listening to them.
All of this is to tell you, from an old MD to you, get the dvds and it will make your life much easier.

well, the news it that at long last i also had a bad studying day. i was dreading this would happen so soon. u know, one of those days when try as much as u can, u just can't concentrate. m stuck in chapter 7. will b able to finish today.what abt u focususmle?

its heartening to see us all toiling hard to meet the deadline. since this was our 1st subject n we were pretty much up against it, lets extend the deadline- but just by 2 more days. after that, we start with chap-8 come what may.. so july 8 it is friends. give it all u have. if we r any slower, jan-07 ll b difficult

now coolsuch, all have advised u to get dvds/lippincott n i agreethese help. but i also believe u may b a bit short on confidence here. to b able to study BELIEVE IN UR ABILITIES.

THe CORRECT ANS IS E.
Why? bcoz all dna sequences r written 5' to 3' n then arranged anti parallel according to chargaff's rule.
this is an old examiner's trick called"dangling carrot" u r d examiner's bunny n he dangles a likely but wrong choice in front of u. u take the bait n never consider d other choices. b was the carrot in this case. beware of this trick in the actual exam.
now i hope u'll never make d same mistake with chargaff's rules again!

Hi you guys, and welcome to all the new members.
I am sorry to report I have only read 3 chapters, but I will catch up during the weekend, aldo it is going to be hard since it is a family members birthday, but anyway, I will do my best to keep up.
Coolsuch, hang in there, I agree with indidoc, sometimes we can be our worst enemy, and selfdoubt or lack of confidence can make us loose faith or make things harder for ourselves so have confidence in yourself, you graduated med school!!, you can finish this chapters, it is going to take maybe a little more time in the beginning, specially if our brain is not used to studying anymore, but I am sure and confident We all can make it and so CAN YOU!!

Somehow i managed to kill chapter 7 today.I dont know how but i just did it. Since our deadline is extended for a day. I will take a day off.
Indidoc, i am sorry for not posting my attempt although i did try solving it . Next time ill be more careful to post it too.
Coolsuch, like dama and everyone suggested please do try getting Kaplandvd's & it will make life easier. GL
