387. Which category of hypersensitivity BEST decribes hemolytic disease of the newborn caused by Rh incompatibility? (A) Atopic or anaphylactic (B) Cytotoxic (C) Immune complex (D) Delayed 388. The principal difference between cytotoxic (type II) and immune complex (type III)hypersensitivity is (A) The class (isotype) of antibody (B) The site where antigen-antibody complexes are formed (C) The partidpation of complement (D) The participation of T cells 389. A child stung by a bee experiences respiratory distress within minutes and lapses into unconsciousness. This reaction is probably mediated by (A) IgE antibody (B) IgG antibody (C) sensitized T cells (D) complement (E) IgM antibody

NNL I think u are right with the choice of lymph node 'coz when the antigen or antigenic peptide is present that is where B or T cell or others are released and then some T are transferred to other lymphatic places...for secondary response. So ans. is C. The other one E. And the new set are B, C, A. Thank you so much they were good qs. I'll put in some too tomorrow.

NNL, regarding the 1st q, you are right that activation of immune response will take place in the reticuloendothelial system depending on the mode of entry of antigen . The stem of the q is a little confusing as lymph nodes, GALT (and may be thymus also in children?) are the possible places for the activation of immune response. My answers to your next set of qs: 1:B 2: D 3:A

Hi Guys, NNL.......I agree answer to your question number 1 is :Lymph node . So now u are wondering as to why i picked E in the first place & my explaination is aydreaming , i was working on things in mind & so i thought of the first place where lymphopoiesis takes place......thought of yolksac & fetal liver and then casually picked E. So its actually C (or i agree Unique .....might be GALT depending on the route but since they didnt go into all these intricacies, we just pick Lymphnode This time i am fully awake & my answers are: 387 B 388 C 389 A

What does DC stand for? First cells involved in antigen response are antigen presenting cells i.e Macrophages, Dandritic cells, Langerhan's cells,B cells etc. Am I right ????

Yup u r right abt that DC is the most potent APC Cell present but it does not have the ability to induce an immune reaction here wht i found on the net "MATURATION AND FUNCTION OF DENDRITIC CELLS In most tissues, DCs are present in a so-called ‘immature’ state and are unable to stimulate T cells. Although these DCs lack the requisite accessory signals for T cell activation, such as CD40, CD54, CD80 and CD86, they are extremely well equipped to capture Ags in peripheral sites. Once they have acquired and processed the foreign Ags, they migrate to the T cell areas of lymph nodes (LNs) and the spleen, undergo maturation and stimulate an immune response. " http://www.rcsed.ac.uk/journal/vol46_1/4610003.htm Now i guess the universal answer wud be Lymph Node

THe ans for the next r 387. B 388. B 389. A Ahhh..........Wht struck me the most was that we all missed the most crucial part in the question n it was the minutest point of All even i made it wrong then i had to scratch my head then curse myself for being dumb( hey i KNOW i ADMIT it so dont Rub it in ) n then whack my brains to find the y the choice B was the Answer . i came up witha reference n a table. the Table is attached n the rf.pg . link is http://pathmicro.med.sc.edu/ghaffar/hyper00.htm Could u believe that they actually managed to bring out one of the most imp yet so minute point under a discussion. LOL i know u guys must be saying damn we need to study more but as Focus said WIDE AWAKE is the key we all have read the stuff we just need it to be put in perspective Thats all.
