i also wonder where all hv gone well me at shore of biochemistry ATLAST(BUT 1ST READ, HA!i dont promise i know everything i hv jus studied tho... ...and will start anatomy and micro (was left behind b/c of biochem..grrrrrr)from monday...!hey focusmle i am ready to do anatomy with u...where are u buddy....,respond!!!!!!

Hi Guys,
Keepgoing........THANKS for comming up in doing Anatomy with me. Just give me 2 more days for physio & i will b all set for anatomy then.So starting wednesday then ok. Please kindly also post a schedule you feel comfortable with because i REALLY need to do it thoroughly.
Coolsuch.....i think new_lost gave you a wonderful advise, i think its somewhat similar to what i once suggested . Anyway, new_lost is a really kind & helpful person.
Lily...........you get the Identification number when you fill in the form & send it online.
Just pick up a date you want, the earlier the better. Later if you dont feel comfortable with the scheduled triad of months you can ask for extension & they will give the next consecutive months from the last month in your triad. I hope i have answered your queries.

hello everyone:
Sorry for not posting in a while but besides the discussions I have been busy with micro and not doing too well. That was not my best subject in school and the ghosts are revisiting me. This weekend I did not do anything, but I satrted again today. I am just reading just for the sake of reading and not retaining much. Therefore I felt discouraged. I am going to attempt MMRS to see if it helps, and I have not done the audios yet but everyone say that they are not really good.
Please I need some advice on how to proceed with micro. What Should I have been retaining during this first read, what r the usmle looking for? I am only up to bacteria, I have a long way to go.

Hi
I have also finished Microbiology and its indeed difficult to remember intially coz all info is in tabular form. Whats given in KLN is board relevant material and I think you need to memorize it well. This is possible in multiple revisions and you can't acheive it in first reading. The videos are useless as you don't need to build up a concept about bugs you just need to MEMORIZE them!!!.
One advice needed: I have finished first reads of Bio, Immuno and Micro from KLN...Can you suggest which topic to do next? I need to go through all the relevant subjects before I go for patho.

Hi everyone'
It is me again, I just wanted to mention something about the discussion. To me we have not accomplished a lot in the discussions: what I mean is that We have spent 5- 6 discussions of about 3 hrs each on 3 and half chapters.
I think it will benefit us all to postpone the discussion after we have completed the first read where we will be able to connect more concepts. Please do nto take me wrong, I think that the discussions are great but we were going 2 slow. Things will move faster after first read.

Hello friends! i m reporting after a long long time. ws really caught up in my casualty rotation. GOD!! d last few days have gone past in blur.. i have duty frm 8 pm to 8 am. then sleep till lunch. after that, just cant get myself back to study n then its back to duty at 8.
n d worst news i have is friends, I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO READ A SINGLE TOPIC IN ALL THIS TIME just could not. tried my best but....
well, that sends my plans of finishing micro+immuno by 18th up in smoke. will try to get back my sanity, get my head down n try to keep going.
at this note... keepgoing, gr8 to see u r progressing so well. congrats on finishing biochem. its admirable how u manage 2 subjects at once. gr8 job. just keep going
coolsuch, i m sorry i cudnt b there to lend u support when u needed it buddy. but i see new n lost, jaide n keepgoing did a gr8 job of it. i cant put it better than what new n lost has done. he deserves tonnes of appreciation fr that. n he really should change his id to "no longer lost n showing others d way now". i read ur next post indicating ur transition to a better frame of mind. maintain this motivation plz. take baby steps as new n lost said. n i repeat his words.."DONT THINK OF ABANDONING US CAPTAIN OR ELSE....."
focusmle.. hope ur prep is going full steam. so, done with physio too. eh? gr8 pace buddy. u rock.
zade, i also have my probs wth micro. i think MMRS helps u retain better if u give one read to kap notes b4 that. try it. may b it'll help.
oldkid.. gr8 to have u post in our group.. i suggest u start wth anat now. thats my plan any way coz one gets into a rote memory mode with micro. anat can get u back to concepts slowly as it has a combination of both memorisation n concepts. these r just my thoughts. plz plan according to ur own schedule. hope i cud b of some help.

n now i devote this post fr my response to zade's last post. i agree fully with her. yes, it may appear to b a lil harsh initially but think of it this way... 3*6=18 hours fr a review of a paltry 3 chapters???/ i think thats taking way tooo much time frm our study schedule. i know, discussions r simply indispensable fr clearing doubts n understanding concepts. but 6 hrs fr 1 chapter??? tooo much. not acceptable.
i also agree that we should postpone it till we r finished wth our 1st read. by then, a lot of concepts will b clarified by cross subject references n we ll b able to review much better n in very lil time as well. it may seem a bit abrupt to give up on something we r all getting a hang of but hey!! nothing is more imp than using max time fr our study n most efficiently.
zade, u r not bossy n no one's gonna take u wrong. u just brought up a very pertinent point which we all felt now n then.
plz.. coolsuch, new n lost, keepgoing, lily n oncogene..... post ur views on this matter.
hope all r having a gr8 time studying.

@indidoc---dont worry everything will be fine!meanwhile u can do the subjects which needs only cramming like micro bugs ana or U may take FA along with u whenever get time juz open FA....!i know u r good u will manage ur time efficiently well!
@lily--sorry i didnt read ur question and i agree with focusmle and hope u got ur ans. anyways where are u?report here what r doing these days?

i finished only biochem not micro which i left inbetween as i got panic attacks abt biochem that was taking too much of expected time but atlast by good god's grace and ur help and support i cud finally complete my 1st read biochem.....thanks u all and plzz keep this group and its main motto alive....
@Oldkidontheblock---welcome and thanks for ur kind help !and i think indidoc is rt and as u said earlier micro anat are the subjects need to cramm thats it so for taht we need repetitions and if u think u ahve enough time do them 1st and and patho and pysio shud be done after u r finshed with this minor ones but never underestimate...i guess...well my 2cents !!!lets see if anyone has got more good thing to advice us on...!

Lily ...... I hope all goes well with ur relocation n ur project n u wrap it up soon n get back to ur studies asap.
Focus........ going along fine with that speed Insha Allah u will have time for 3rd read as well by Dec .
Indi.......... Casualty duties being tough though r the best places ever to have ur first hand attempt at DDs n makes u remember things which r easily forgotten sometimes by us. they really help to apply ur concepts in high pressure situations.

Zade ...... u r right i think it would be appropriate if the discussion is after the a single read of a subject or lets say chapters n focus on the things which r difficult to grasp or easily misunderstood
U have time guys make notes add them go look up things n add them to a single book n Remember Kaplan is not a Reference book so consult one if u have to cos the only way u r gonna go thru every subject thoroughly is only by maximizing ur concepts. i have been doing the questions on Q bank or even posted on the this forum they all r conceptual. AS Goljan Says Concepts Concepts Concepts. n he is probably right big time, there r no short cuts to the material in Kaplan , so u have to have concepts cos eventually during after 3 hrs u mind gets numbed n wht u need is the logic n reasoning to prevail n believe me in a 7 hr examination u need to strength to do tht n enuf attention span thats can only be accomplished by ur concepts, i have read so many posts regarding the Exam Experiences n the only way out for ppl was ,who faired well in the upper 90s, they had Concepts which led to automacity Like our Dear OLD SA Node. lol here i go again

Regarding Pathology i think its best to be done in series u have to have Goljan for tht n believe me still sometimes i have to look Robbins for somethings, Goljan Integrates 4 imp topics very well BIO-Physio-Pharma n Patho. Micro is a cramming up subject its the automacity that counts when u read or hear abt a particular bug.
n for PPL who find anatomy is tough then i would like to suggest a book called Keith L. Moore Clinicaly Oriented Anatomy has Got some unbelieveable figures which tend to stick to ur minds it helped me.
As For me guys i have scheduled my exam on the 29 th Sept n i m finishing up on Patho with Anatomy n Behavioural sciences to go( i have done 5 subjs with a first read only n if i have more time available then will go for 2nd read n its a big if ). As u all know that i have got myself in a bind by not planning ahead n i have to give my exam or stand to lose my fees so PRAY FOR ME PPL I DEFINITELY NEED THEM RIGHT NOW

Hi everyone..I was passing through when i came across ur thread and decided to jot in a few words.looks like u guys are doing a gr8 job.Please visit our forum sometime..it'll be gr8 exchanging notes.I'm presently doing physiology....i'ma mom and it's taking me forever.I plan to take the test sometime early next year.
Could u guys...do something we did in our thread...page31....list out all the stuff u have done up until now and the sources from which u have done it....also maybe ur time line and goals...Sure would appericiate that.
It'll be easier asking for help and discussing.

Hey Friends,
I hope you all are doing good. As far as i am concerned,i am feeling blue right now because i am lagging behind my schedule these days. I planned on completing Physio last week but it dragged on to this wednesday.....and its Thursday today & i still have Respiratory & Renal......two major sections remaining.
You all know i have guests over and i never complain because i think they bring blessings......but man......this time i am really losing time. They will be leaving comming Saturday so i hope to catch things up by then. Just though of confiding with you all because its getting tough now.
Keep going & Zade.....i have done Biochem, Physio,Micro and Immunology uptil now. I dont know how i am in these subjects because i still need to do questions.
Wow......just a few months to go & look at me.
Zade......i will be doing Anatomy from Kaplan + High yield Neuroanatomy,Anatomy and Histology. Will check up the Road Map for Pelvis & Perinium .
Keep Going....i hope you can figure out my situation now & my reason for not being able to post earlier. Thanks for waiting & starting anatomy with me buddy.
I asked you for some schedule you are comfortable with because i really dont want to push things , but i guess you missed it. Anyway, let me state what i plan & tell me what you think.
Anatomy Schedule according to Kaplan Anatomy:
Day 1. Back & Nervous System + Early embryology
2. Thorax + Histology(Chapter 1&2)
3. Upper Limb + Histology (3 & 4)
4. Lower Limb +Histology (5 & 6)
5. Abdomen +Histology (7 & 8)
6. Pelvis & Perinium +Histology (9 & 10)
Then will start with neuroanatomy.
Anyone else will be more than welcome to join in.

Hi Keepgoing,
Just visited the forum today. If you ask me buddy, i think subject wise approach is good for the first read & once you get the hang of stuff, you can go for a system based revision. Atleast, thats what i am doing friend.
Rest is all upto u, if you feel comfortable the other way, its your style of doing things, so maybe you can go for it.
Rest of the gang......my guests left yesterday & i am just a cleanliness freak, so i am just doing laundery,hover,changing sheets......anything & everything to get my place in order again. So here goes my weekend, but i feel happy in a clean & tidy place so its ok.
Will be all set then. Need your prayers too buddies.
Another thing i need to clearify is..........i am Always logged in because i dont log out.(had some problems with the password initially which bothered me a lot) This is why you always see me online even though i am not. So if i am not replying back to anyones instant msg buddy......please dont take me wrong. I am actually not there.

From Today Excatly one Month left makes me jittery n literally sends shivers down my spine n then kaboom ! my mind goes BLANK n it takes me an hour to realize it was just a panic attack like the one a claustrophobic gets when he gets stuck in an elevator .......

It has been a while since I posted but I do visit everyday. Well on to my slow progress. I am having a heck of a time trying to keep micro into memory. It has been a long time.
I have just finished bacteriology in kaplan, have not done the q's in the back yet. I am going over bacteriology with MMRS and first aid in order to increase retention. I also plan to do the audios/videos.
I have a lot to do and need to pick up my pace a bit but I have been tired from running aroun with my kids trying to get them ready for school next week. Thank GOD for an extra day off on Monday. Will try to put it 2 good use.
New n lost: hang in there. M yprayers r with u. I have no doubt that u will make it.
BTW what did u use for patho and what r u using for anatomy.
Coolsuch: It is good 2 hear from u. Good luck with ur studies and hopefully ur new job, but please do not take ur eyes off the prize: USMLE. Let us when u get ur engine running again.

For Pathology n I can only say one thing Start With Goljan Goljan n GOLJAN. this Guy is Really good n believe me its not hype when ppl say that they actually heard him saying the KEYS to solve a question. i have attempted Patho questions n believe me wht ever he has said eventually it is there in the question n u actually remember him saying it. Plus since u have time, do look up things with it like add notes there r certain things he has left out i mean he has hasnt stressed upon but comparatively he has covered enough for a 85% for Pathophysio n 95 % if u actually listen to him very intently he has integrated Biochem n Micro too. Follow the Kaplan with it so if u miss out anything then u can add it from internet n other books but believe me guys GOLJAN is the best REview Lecturer u have heard.
H.Y for Anatomy with Kaplan.............
Guys u have time to utilize the material infront of u, i mean integrate things, like Zade i had the same Problem of retention in MICRO n the that helped me out was corelation of diseases n I have a Drill Sgt. Believe me i m very grateful to my friend who is really pushing me thru these things n hammering with revision u will never be able to do Micro unless u discuss it one on one. u have to devote atleast a couple of hrs to discussion with no interruptions n u will see the difference.
Cant Stress on it HARD Discussion guys a productive Discussion is more fruitful than u can imagine n it saves time a lot.
I m counting on ur prayers u Guys esp u Coolsuch ( thanks for painting a good visualization buddy )
if u guys need any help i will be glad to offer it anytime n anyday
