Hi Buddy......i think its a great idea working on messenger. But i think we should go for a chat room. Because we could have a proper discussion there & everyone can see everyone. Messenger will just be 1 to 1 typing? right?

now keepgoing... tandem repeat sequences r repeated copies of d same 3 nucleotides over n over again. these r a normal part of our genetic make up. but d problem arises when due to some error, d number of times these sequences r repeated goes up. like in hunting... dis, it goes up frm 5 normally to >30 in disease. as a result,d protein structure changes making it unstable leading to abnormal cell functioning n so, symptoms develop.

attention all group mates... we have tried to discuss various topics. group discussions r pretty productive but doing them on d forum is turning out to be quite difficult. so we decided to discuss on yahoo messenger.

Hi guys,
Focus: I do not have ur msgr address yet. what is urs.
Indidoc:I am sorry but i do not think that i can join u on friday. fridays and saturdays are not good for me but I would like to be able to read the discussion. How can i do that? keepgoing mentioned copying the discussion onto microsoft and forwarding it. Any other ideas? Today discussion was good but I have an idea. I think the discussion should be done by chapter where everyone is giving an opportunity to bring up their questions about topics that they did not understnd. then the discussion or explanation takes place. Questions should be placed in the forum before or after and given a certain amount of time to answer, then a shorter discussion could be scheduled if questions about the Q's arise. this way a total of 2 discussions can be scheduled every week.

Dear friends,
There are several guys in our group are great eg. indidoc1, focusmle ...they study a lot, and the others are little slower, maybe the slower ones can get a sub-group, our purpus is try to study for at least 1hr/day at beginning and try to finish 3-5 chapters a week and we set a time to discuss these chapters everyweek. Hope after several weeks, we can get more time or our reading speed is getting fast, we can study more,
please do not feel guilty (actually sometimes I felt guity too) about the cold fact that looks like we can't finish the biochemistry forever, we should be proud of ourselves since we have lots of responsbilities and we are old: , but we still made our mind to do something. So, don't push ourselve too hard, otherwise we'll lose patience, confidence and finally we'll lose our hope which I think the most important thing. So, my dear friends in this group, if you a little slow at the beginning or you have not finish the biochemistry, would you like to join us? if you do, please post a message, we'll try our best to do 5 chapters a week, or at least 3 chapters. For indidoc1 and focusmle and other great guys, please keep going as the schedule, and please keep posting, we'll follow you guys,
I'll have more time after a month, I'll try to catch you up, or at least i'll start a new subject with you guys then. Anothing is I like focusmle's idea about the discussion because like he(sorry, or she) said it will give everybody a chance to keep study. So could we set the weekly discusion according the"slowergroup"'s schedule? for the faster ones, you can do the discussion as a revision. I really like our group and I really want us to work together. Thank you very much for reading this long post.

I was CRAZY enough to add u as "BRB @ yahoo.com".Actually, i just joined the discussion then & was so tired from outside that i added u with this ID & then i thanked keepgoing for asking about my mom-in-law, when actually my little buddy Indidoc was asking. So u can imagine 
Then after a while i did regain my composure somewhat that things began to make sense.
I really like your Idea Zade & i agree that each chapter should be discussed. This is what discussion is all about. We should really discuss every chapter at the conference room & put up little questions to check our learning.We can post our questions the same day in the end as giving 2 days might be a little too much.
Lily, i was going through stuff later & your questions were GREAT.
I even read your post above & we have to admit that we all got carried away. Our main aim was to keep us going together. Plz excuse us if we tried rushing things.
Running after Biochem, you wont believe that i am still stuck with microbio, although it was supposed to be finished days ago.
I also do my clerkships here so i just have a couple of hours to work. I dont know what happened but i am still at Micro bio.& its just not me, even Indidoc is still at it.
So i think we should keep our revision at a steady pace & work on it WITH EVERYONE gradually. But plz remember Lily that if we feel that we are lazing around, we will all pull each others ears ok. So without stretching too much, lets work steady.
I know all of us here are very considerate & we all like working stuff together. So just cool down friend.
Lily, lets work it out friend. Give us a schedule for next Wednesday or anyday u guys want. But plz remember buddy, u must post at least 3-5 chapters for next week because we all know that they are comparatively the easy ones ok.
In the meanwhile, we will be continuing with our Microbio & Immuno and will try our utmost to finish them by the 1 of August.
Indidoc, Keepgoing, Zade, Novak and others. What do all say guys? We wont like subdivisions in our group right? So guys lets help each other here.

Hi guys:
Just read lily's and focus' posts. I do not think that we should split as a sub-group. Like focus said the purpose of this group is to help and support each other. If we start subgroup now we will have many more in the future. If the order is biochem and then micro, the order should stay as such.Now that we are reviewing biochem, I think that the people that have fallen behind should be able to put their shoulders to the task and kkeep up. Of course it is not an easy task but we have made a choice by becoming MD's and the task if not finished.
The way I see it, it is a small sacrifice for better things ahead. This whole USMLE beast can be over in about one to one and a half year and things will be brighter. Or one can drag this thing and be miserable for a long time. I am not being harsh toward anybody, I am really talking to myself. Tonite my family decided to go to the movies, I wanted to go. Suddenly a light went on: mot much studying was accomplished for the day. Then I decided not to go and catch the movie later on video after PASSING Step1. I know that I will enjoy it more. WE HAVE TO PRIORITIZED. Life goes on but our life can be better. WE ARE LIVING BENEATH OUR PRIVILEGES.
My suggestion is to cut down the review session to 3-4 chapters for now to allow some people to catch up and the speed up later. As we are reviewing whoever is ahead will continue to move on, but evrytime that we have a discussion period every body will be on the same page. It does not make sense to me to skip micro and catch up with the rest because we still have micro to do. Let the discussion sessions be a revision for the faster group.
Right now I am up to chapter 16 but for the discussion I could review chap 1-4 and when done with biochem and genetics move on to micro while reviewing biochem AS A GROUP. May be I am wrong and I do not know everybody's agenda but I have been under the impression that the majority of this group was planning to take this exam in J anuary. Correct me if I am wrong, but if not I think it is the better way for us to succeed.
For me wednesday is OK. Thursday might be a good possibility too.

I bet that shook u up, didn't it? well, i ws just joking buddy wanted to make all reading this to sit up a lil more (weird sense of humor,isn't it)
now to serious matters.. i really don't think we should split into subgroups. as zade puts it... one division will lead to many more in d future. we all r in this together n together we shall stand!!!
i agree it got a bit out of hand but it ws our 1st discussion n there ws a lot of nervous energy n enthusiasm around. yet, u hav to agree, it ws an enlightening experience n a big part of it ws bcoz of ur dazzling questions.
but believe me, d discussion on messenger ws much more organised n controlled n easy to follow as all posts appear in real time nd at d same time to all(i think focusmle,new n lost n keepgoing ll vouch fr that). but at d forum, things get a bit mixed up bcoz new posts appear only when we refresh d page.so i m all fr a msngr discussion.
regarding d pace... the whole purpose of these discussions is to keep d group together dear. that means that whatever d status of everyone's prep, d target fr discussions will be set to d bare minimum. not more than 5 chapters or so a week.
about the looong time its taking fr biochem, thats why we chose to start with biochem. i said this earlier... "TACKLE UR BIGGEST FEAR FIRST N IT WILL CEASE TO BE A FEAR". fr most imgs, biochem is their nemesis. i assure u, micro is a big relief after biochem once u kno d worst is over.never get disappointed if it appears to b taking long coz a few questions frm it may decide what u do fr d rest of ur life.
its really inspiring n fruitful when d whole group discusses n that ll lose its sheen if we split up. so PLEASE.. don't even think abt it.
now to zade.... this lady has got a real ice factory between her ears. i mean zade, u really have got d level headedness needed to get a 99! n i m really saying it in all sincerity. it takes just one look at ur clear cut suggestions n ur self discipline to say... wow this one has something special.
i believe if we can learn these qualities frm her, we all r potential 99ers fr JAN 07.
i fully agree wth her suggestions fr d discussion. i have got some suggestions frm my side
1. discussions should be on yahoo msngr. believe me, it adds value to them.
2. questions can be posted in d forum n on msngr simultaneously.
3. once someone posts a question, no further Qs till that one's been attempted n then clarified to all( this is d aspect where msngr really scores)
4.1st we discuss major concepts frm a chapter n then post Qs
5.we hold 1 discussion per week on a fixed day n time
6. THIS IS D MOST IMP ONE... a discussion really makes more sense if all participate n can b there. so what i request all of u to do is to post d days of d week n d times when u CAN and those when u absolutely can't be there fr discussions fr coming many weeks. plz post them in this forum again even if u hav already done so. by consensus then, we can choose one time each week when all can b there. if some situation arises fr 1 or 2 members in some of those discussions, i promise i'll send u d full transcript of d discussion by email.WHILE GIVING TIME U R AVAILABLE FR DISCUSSION, PLZ KEEP IN MIND U NEED ABT 1-2 HRS ABSOLUTELY DEVOTED TO THIS.
plz post this info by saturday,29th july noon. so that we can set a definite discussion schedule from next week.

Hi everyone,
I am sorry I have nto been able to keep up with the group and I didnt want to barge in but I cant help to say the group is really doing good and you guys are having some good discussions. As for me.whew. I am in a fix. My parents are here in USA and just dont feel like geting back to books. Mre so after I started molecular biology .MAn!!!!!!!!!!I just kept going away from it. I just dont feel like touching the books again.I am soory I didnt want to write all this but I am feeling really low and guilty and so low on motivation.I dont know how do I get back to it.
I am just posting here to let all you guys know you are a wonderfull group and doing good. I am always praying for the group and am sure you all would do just great.As for me, I hope I have not lost the battle with MLE>
