Hi,
I am seeking a study partner to study with.I am old IMG,graduated in 2000 and have just started my prepartion.I am planning on tAKING THE TEST SOMEITME NEXT YEAR in 2007,may be january.
I need somebody to study with,may be online so that can motivate me to keep going and also people like me.Anyone interested please respond.Also,I need to start but dont know what subject to begin with ,how many hours ,days.I am sure there are people who must hace just started and are willing to help.

Welcome.I really appreciate you writng.If you all agree we can start with biochem.I need to know which material are we gonna use.I just have kaplan notes and kaplan home study kit.I dont have text book for biochem amd it is my weakest subject.please let me know.do you have study plan and we can start with it.

Hello everyone, just got in touch with coolsuch, count me in, I really need all the motivation and support.
First a little bit about myself, I am an IMG, graduated in 2001, been planning to do this steps since 2002, even have some books that I bought in that year so now I need to upgrade, it is 2006, and I definately don't want to waste anymore time, so that is why I think it is a good idea if I can form a part of your group to keep me in track, and try to set common goals to study and keep studying which is one thing that so far I haven't been able to do.
I read that some of you want to start with biochem and lily2008 with anatomy, what is it going to be?
I've asked to senior members about the order of the subjects, and p53 and others have recommended to study is in the following order:
anatomy
biochemistry & genetics
physiology
microbiology & immunology
pathology
pharmacology
behavioral science
Do you have kaplan old 2002 notes or the 2005 notes?
What do you think?

i agree on the utility of kaplan materials. they r very good.
abt study sequence, anatomy is quite an unrelated subject to others as far as concepts go. so it can be slotted in at the beginning or in between whenever u get tired of too many concepts. according to me, the 1st 2 subjects should be biochem n anat in whichever order. then.,,,,
micro
physio
patho
pharma
behavioral sc
coolsuch, if biochem is ur weakest subject, get lippincott too. study from kaplan n consult lipp where u r not satisfied. i use this technique coz biochem's my weakest subject as well.
well, if all of us agree then lets pick up a subject, set daily targets n start up right away!
lets do it guys.... GO 99!!!

well, well well, so we r a group at last. GREAT!
Now first of all, lets set ourselves a goal...
OUR MAIN AIM IS TO BE READY FR STEP 1 BY JAN 2007, not later than that.
The 2nd thing is.. i hope al joining this group r just starting out. no offences meant guys, but if someone is too far ahead, it'll be very difficult fr others to stay in touch.
now the working.. all of us start a subject together n set daily targets fr the group.this way, we can all keep ourselves abreast n stay focussed. any confusions r then discussed on the forum. the post in the forum gives us accountability n spurs us on. it'll be good if we post any confusion or question, however trivial it may seem in the forum so that all of us can clear it up n benefit. more we ask, the more we'll learn. try to post as many ques as u can.
the study source should not be a matter of concern as long as we keep up with our schedule as basic concepts r same in all books. Personally, i'm using kaplan notes n use other books only where i think i'm not getting the concept.
another thing, i think we should start with biochem over anat. reason is most IMGs r afraid n weak in biochem coz the approach in our medical education n that of USMLE is totally different. as it is said.." CONFRONT UR BIGGEST FEAR AND U'LL NO LONGER FEAR IT"
Finally, coolsuch said i should take the lead. All in this forum r equal. there's no such thing as "lead". what i have written r just views i hv got by interacting with prev exam givers. Please... any inputs frm all r welcome.
Lets work together n achieve our goal with flying colors.

I would like to study with you guys. I am at the same starting point as you guys and also an older procrastinating graduate. I think that strarting with biochemistry is the way to go. Next I think physio or micro and immuno. Anatomy should be done before path and I think that path sould before behav scien
To reiterate :
Biochem
Physio or Micro and Immuno
Pharm
Anat
Path
Behavioral sciences.
We might even think about doing a system approach. For example : Cardio :: Anat, physio,path and pharm fo the cardio system.
Is the atarting date July 3rd or July 5th? I also agree that the exam should be taken no later than January 07, Mid January sounds very good.
If everyone is using the Kaplan LN and /or videos I think that we should go in chapter order starting with chapter1 and maybe with a goal of 1 chapter a day depending of the length of this chapter or maybe a certain # of chapters assigned for 1 week will say that we will do the first four chapter in week 1.Things do happen and life goes on but it will be very helpful if everybody stays on track and makes the target or close to it.
I am not trying to be bossy. I am just throwing ideas around. I am just excited to find a group and finally have some discipline.
Let's do it.
Our Goal is January 2007 (99).

so we r all decided on biochem....... btw, nice idea zade, i ws thinking of integrating systemwise too.
in biochem, we have 2 options, we can start with structural n metabolic biochem( kaplan chap 8-18), or genetics (kaplan 1-7 n medical genetics at the end).
either one can be done in 1 week. which one do we start with?

hey guys... no interfering or anything...but as someone who has recently done biochem... can i suggest that u do from the start...ch 1onwards... coz i noticed that due to having done the mol bio cha(1-7) i could integrate the biochem ch well too...
but ...its ur group...ur choice... just thought i'd help any way i could...

I agree with jaide about starting with chapter 1. So please set the target and the starting date. Btw, how many reads are we going to do and if there will be more than one is this one just to familiarize or also memorize?
I just one everybody in the same page.
And again, if we are doing mor than one read, in how much time overall should the first read be done? What about Q bank or any other question bank? When will we start that?
Sorry for so many questions. I am just trying to get a big picture and make sure that January 07 is doable.
