Hey Guys (BBB if you are out there - would appreciate your input on this as well)

How do Pre-Matches work? Is there a list of programs that offer pre-matches? PLEASE correct me if I am wrong....trust me...on this one...I want to be wrong, but I thought it was against NRMP rules for a program to offer prematch and or a candidate to accept it. Obviously there is info about this that I am not aware of, please fill me in.

Thanks in advance for enlightening me!

Will

It's not against the rules.

You apply, you interview, you let the program know that you are interested in a pre match. They offer (or they don't).

That's how it works.

ARE PREMATCHES SURE/SAFE?? IF A PROGRAM OFFERS YOU A PREMATCH AND YOU SIGN UP AND EVERYTHING, ISN'T THERE ANY CHANCE THEY WILL CHANGE THEIR MIND LATER CHOOSING A "BETTER" CANDIDATE???

raised eyebrow

has anybody known of any story like that???

Yes there have been instances where programmes offered prematches and then after some time said no,but this is a very rare occourance,(in most of the cases candidate would have failed in one of the steps specially step-2 CS) normally it is either the policy of the programmes to give pre-matches either to get good candidates into the programme or to make sure they match candu=idates into all their positions in other words to see that their positions donot go unfilled (sign of a weak programme).

First of all you have to be shortlisted to the interviews for you to get a pre-match offer, the offer is either communicated during the interview (normally by PD) or within 1-2 days of the interview.

Some programmes wait for your thankyou letter in order to offer pre-match,depends from programme to programme.

Hope this helps.

Very rare for a program to back out of a prematch for no reason. Now, if you sign a prematch and then you decide that you want a visa that they don't sponsor - that's a reason, but just to back out, no - prematches are pretty safe and pretty rare.
