Well finally, it is over for me now. good or bad, thank Allah (God) it is over.

i have been benefiting from this forum tremendously and i greatly appreciate those who cared to share. now i pay my due:

like most people before me, i have a "Mixed" feeling. it certainly was very doable and logical. NONE of the Q.s were coming from another planet. everything was well explained and balanced from the stuff in kaplans.

there were long vignettes as everybody expects but there were a decent number of 2-line or even 1-line straight Q.s too!!
every single subject was on the exam from Embryo to Path.

the bulk for me was Path, Micro, Pharm. the only issue for me was "endurance"!!
try doing lots and lots of Mock exams, not only because of the content, but more importantly to get accustomed to the chronic fatigue. Q.s are long and so is the day! therefore it is important to be able to keep focus. i mean at the beginning it may be easy to run but believe me after 200-300 questions of :
  • a 35-year old woman walks into your office.....

  • a 25-year old man comes to you complaining...

  • a 5-day old newborn is brought to you...

you really want to bang your head to the monitor.sad

I am not going to talk about my preparation now, simply because i don`t know how i did. therefore i am not in a position to advice anything yet. so please bear with me until i get my result, i promise i`ll be thorough
concerning the day of the exam, it was, thank God, event-less. the exam went smooth and my palpitation started to fade away after the 2nd block. i had no problem at all with the time, and even in a couple of blocks, after checking the marked Q.s i still got some time to quickly go over the block to check the answers, but i resisted to change my answers unless i had a strong reason to believe it was grossly wrong.
i actually had 5-6 Q.s marked per block, except the 3rd block which seemed a bit harder so i had 12-13 Q.s marked.
i thought that adrenalin would keep me up and running but i was wrong, after 3,4 blocks i got exhausted i had difficulty maintaining my focus, that is why i would like to once more underline the importance of Endurance which comes with more practice. but anyway, i felt better after the breaks.
i took no break between Block 1 and 2, after Block 2 i took 5min, after block 3 i took 10min, after block4 i had my lunch break for 20min(i planned 30min but i saw no use in taking it that long) and after block 5 i took 15min off and finally after block 6 i took 10min. you have to keep track of your break time at all time, you can`t see the total remaining break time directly on the screen, so my advice is after 3-4 blocks, if you still have some seconds before the blocks ends, click on the timer up on the left corner to make sure how much is left for the breaks.

otherwise the exam is very smooth as i said. except for the last 20 Q.s that i had a hard time answering. i would read the Q.s back and forth many times to understand the meaning of the words but i put the final pressure to get them done.
all i want to emphasis is, not to ever loose hope and keep studying and studying and studying. there is a direct correlation between your studies and your performance (r=+1)
and above all, trust God and He`ll give you the strength, you would never imagine. He sure did that for me, many things could go wrong during the exam, from many posts i read before, many had Blackouts during the exam but thank God, it was very comfortable for me.
i know it might sound a bit religious, but settling your debits with God before the exam would seem like a good idea wink
please pray for me and i wish all of you the best of the best.

if you have any questions i am more that happy to answer if i can.

Thank you all for your kind words and support.

well i do like to talk about the questions in detail but the MLE says if they somehow find me revealing the Q.s, i'll have to suffer the consequences even though i know, it is next to impossible but like Goljan says "i am a total coward related to those things" smiling face

but i cab speak Generally about the Q.s as much as i remember without specifically mentioning the Q.s :

Path: was a big part of my exam, many long clinical vignettes and short ones as well. Q.s are mostly straight forward and easy to understand if you keep your attention. everything can be found in BRS and most pictures, you don't even have to look at them, b/c the stem tells you everything. and what really helped me besides BRS was Dr. Goljan's audio lectures. guys, if you think that he is pushing it abit too far and Q.s are not like that , you are grossly wrong. the guy is a pure geniuse, i atleast answered 10-15 Q.s only and only based on what he said, like many others i could hear him in my ears i highly recommend him. (i didn't do his Rapid review or high yeilds, i just listened to him) his tips are magical but i should also mention that in reallity they give you more info than what he says they give you, but still if you keep in mind those important correlations he mentions, you are good to go.

Pharm: again many Q.s, mainly MAOs, SE, DOC and many Antibiotics in Micro Q.s and 3-4 Autonomic curves. if you really understand the Autonomic Curves in Kaplan. i don't think you'll have a difficult time with them. i also had a couple of PK/PD problems, which was not that hard.

Micro: likewise a big part of the exam. mostly easily recognizable stuff , some basic micro, some treatments and mostly in the frame of clinical vigenettes. Bacteria, viruses, Protozoa, Fungi but no worms!! (atleast in my exam) and also a number of Immunology, none of them from the latest researches for me

Anatomy: few Q.s of gross, no histology and a good number of embryology, all easy and striaght forward. i think Kaplan is enough for Embryo and you don't need HY or anything else. (again from MY experience)

Biochem: mostly metabolic disorders, i didn't have any normal pathways but many many molecular biology and genetics. which were mostly manageable. i was bombarded with secondary messengers left and right. so make sure you know all RECEPTORs and their 2ndary messengers well.it took me half a day to gather which diseases are on which chromosomes which i'll attach to this forume soon. but i didn't get any Q.s of that sort. neither did i get any Translocations.

Physio: not many Q.s that i remember. but i just remember 2-3 CV curves and other Q.s were mixed with other subjects.no calculations for me.

Behavioral: not very many but not rare either. mostly of D-P and ethics Q.s or Drugs of abuse and also some Statistics and Epidemiology mostly manageable.

i hope it was useful. although i am really sorry that i can't tell the Q.s. hope you understand :\

about how long i studied and what , please be patient. i really don't see myself in that position yet.

i'll talk about everything when i get my results back.

if you have any other Q.s i'll be glad to answer.

thanks.. what's enough for Biochem? i can't understand this subject at all. Is it better to study this at the very end even if this is my worst subject? thnaks for your input.

star1 & motivated2 your are certainly most welcome here is what i promised which i have attached to this message. i browsed through Robbins to get these together. hope it helps. of course please be kind enough to point out any probable mistakes and any additions if you feel like it. i will also put it up in the Biochem forum.

motivated2 in my opinion the BEST of kaplan LN series is Biochemistry. it is enough and really clear. if you are asking me, there is not much to understand from Biochem. you just have to memorize certain stuff they are most likely to ask you on the exam and Kaplan LN is the man for the job. don`t try to confuse yourself and waste your precious time with different sources. stick to one and repeat it as many times as needed and do MCQs. remember: Knowing what you know the best, is 1000 times better than knowing lots of random unnecessary details.
