Can someone clearly outline the blood circulation in the foetus and how it correlated with placental and maternal flows?As we all know this topic is the basis of many likely questions that we all have to face.
thanks for attention

See the picture and memorize it.

1st principle:

Placenta is a like lungs; Fetal pulmonary circulation is high resistance and systemic is low resistance;
One umblical vein (from placenta)Vein carry oxygenated blood (similar to pulmonary vein carrying oxygentaed blood)

and

2 umblical As. from internal iliac areteries of Fetus carry less oxygenated blood (similar to pulmonary A carrying deoxygentaed blood)back from fetus to placenta.

thanks for the help.It did facilitate understanding.

you are Welcome- let me add
2nd principle:

One ductus venosus (DV) to delievr blood to IVC of the fetus
One ductus arteriosus (DA)- to deliver blood from high pressure pulmonary (as they are collapsed and non-functioning, blood has to enter aorta only thro DA-this usually enter beyong the origin of left subclavian

3rd principle:

Most of the Blood from (more oxygenated blood from IVC) IVC preferntially directed to left atrium through PFO-right atrium just acts as a conduit.
Blood from SVC (less oxygenated coming form the head and neck of fetus) goes direct to right evntricle and them PA and then DA and then to aorta-which recieves now blood from IVC-LA-LV-Aorta as well... So the proxiaml aorta blood going to brain is more oxygenated than the blood in the aorta distal to DA connection-hope that is clear. So dital arota -less oxygnated blood goes via abd aorta-iliac A- umblical A- placenta- gets oxygen and then come nack thro UV- DV- IVC.

Please refer to picture in Kaplan now to see how the oxygen saturation varies with each new vessel entering the circulation.

Bye
