When a head trauma occurs the ventricles seems samaller, but is it by CO2 accumulation or by EDEMA

Your question is difficult to address... you should explain a little bit more.

Basically, the Cushing Reflex, caused by CO2 acumulation, contributes to the elevation of the blood pressure, which in itself itīs a cause of high intracraneal pressure and cerebral edema.

Shrinkage of the ventricular system can be provoqued by everything that elevate ICP. It would be important to know if the ventricles are symetric or not, if thereīs lateral displacement of the midline. This would talk about an space ocupying lesion, such as intracranial bleeding.

Also, one should look for other signs of cerebral edema other than ventricular system shrinkage, such as blurring of the cortico-medular junction and smoothing of the brain surface.
