It was a general question. What I was trying to say is that when you reject an application you are rejecting the dreams of many people like me. Maybe your basic requirements aren't fulfilled for any of us and it is just a mistake waste money applying to some places. You want applications from people who don't meet your basic requirements??why?

  #22

Pete - I guess if you put it that way, I rejected the dreams of almost 3700 people like you....

I don't want applications from people who don't have a chance in my program because I want applicants to save money. Yes, I really do. If I didn't, I wouldn't hang out here with some great people. But it's also against federal law for a program not to take applications from qualified persons. And if you pass the USMLEs, have your ECFMG certificate and qualify, I can't tell you not to apply. But I can tell an applicant what my programs criteria are - then it's in the applicants ballpark to decide if they should risk it or not.

*By the use of the word "you", I mean it in the big picture - "you" being all applicants.

Good luck to all!

You're right bbb. I would rather be rejected than go there for an iv, where you do not stand a chance. it's onely a waste of money. I went to an iv in NY late Dec, And at match time the program withdrawn from the match, anywayI interviewed with 2 other doctors. none of us got a prematch offer, and we didn't get to meet the program director. so it looks like at that time they already have thier list ready. so woudn't be nice from them to tell us not to come and save the trip and the money.

thanks a lot bbb for all you're doing for us. you have been a lot of help. some times i feel like we should pay you, but it's very delightfull that you are volunteering your time here. keep up the good work.

well i think its one's own personal discretion...apply to programs wisely[ can't stress it any more ]...apply to some programs where u think u might not ever get a call...coz there might b something in ur CV which a PD might note n call u for an interview....coz its better to apply to those programs than to regret later that wat if u had applied n u could have been called for an interview too....abt 9-10 programs like the top tier should b enough....n dont just get tempted by prematch offers...see urself during the interview like which program u really liked n u felt like u could b the part of crowd there..n where u felt like u were liked by everyone...its just the beginning of application season...once u start gettin interviews then some of u might have to decide how many interviews they want to attend...attend the interviews n judge urself than reading someone's bad experience abt that particular program coz everybody is different n has different opinions...good luck

if every program would state cleary their basic requirements of course it will be of huge help for any of us. By us of course I mean every img because I think the majority of us face the same problems...If bbb's program does that that is great buy many programs don't.Ok nidaham, I think bbb is interested in recruiting the best people for his/her program and this is a good way of do it....

No, not a program director, just a lowly program coordinator, with experience in IM residency since 1988.

i really like programs which state clearly their req which are next to impossible for an img to meet. better than those programs which encourage a lot of imgs to apply to just satisfy their ego. their is a program in new york which tells u it gives visas though it stopped that 2 years ago. a lot of applications just to satisfy the ego of pd .
well my best program till now is -Oklahoma

Hey, don't get discouraged! I actually know someone, an IMG who matched at Stanfrod a few years ago, with a step1 score in the 80'... I know that must have been an exemption; I just wanted to say that nothing is impossible... as long as don't give up!!!

Keep fighting Guys!!!!
