The biggest joke I found is the requirement for Fort Collins Family Medicine Program (CO):

- Completion of three years of post-graduate training in an ACGME-approved program in the United States or Canada.
(Unless you have done two years or more of post-graduate medical training in the United States, you are not qualified for consideration for a residency position at the Fort Collins Family Medicine Residency Program)

lol...maybe they should save the space and instead write in the same dark print.."we don't like IMGs so don't apply here if you are one", instead of putting ridiculous criteria like those!!

looks like the rule is for the state of CO with regards IMGs.

Criteria for International Medical Graduates

University of Washington Medicine Residency Program will accept applications from International Medical Graduates only if they meet the following criteria:
  • The applicant must be a permanent resident of one of these states: Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, or Idaho.
Or
  • The applicant must be sponsored by a faculty member of the University of Washington School of Medicine who has a personal or professional relationship with the applicant. The sponsoring faculty member must write a letter to the Medicine Residency Program Director, describing the relationship with the applicant (for example, common ties with the applicant’s school, serving as clinical or research supervisor during electives at the University of Washington, etc.) and some information about the applicant’s academic background and qualifications. This letter must be submitted electronically via the ERAS Post Office.
  • The applicant must apply through the ECFMG ERAS program.
And
  • Documentation of successful completion of an Internal Medicine clinical clerkship and/or subinternship of at least eight weeks’ duration at an ACGME accredited U.S., Puerto Rican, or Canadian medical school.
    • This training must have involved direct patient care responsibilities. Observer status or consultation rotations do not meet this requirement. A letter of recommendation from the supervising physician for this training must accompany your application. It must include the date, location, and type of clerkship or subinternship experience. This letter must be submitted electronically via the ERAS post office.
The University of Washington Medicine Residency Program cannot arrange for these experiences at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
    • These clinical experiences must have been completed by November 30, 2005.
    Or
  • Documentation of successful completion of at least four months of residency training in Internal Medicine at an ACGME accredited U.S., Puerto Rican, or Canadian program.
This training must have involved direct patient care responsibilities. Observer status or consultation rotations do not meet this requirement. A letter of recommendation from the program director for this training must accompany your application. It must include the date and location of the residency training experience. This letter must be submitted electronically via the ERAS post office.

...lets take it this way. Thanks to the outrageous criteria they display, we dont waste money in applying!
anyway, maybe these programs mean to give us opportunity to shift into their program, if after 2-3 yrs of doing residency in anthr hospital we find out we wud like smthng better or different(say surgery instead of family practice)? wud require a lot of patience....but thr are some ppl who chose this round abt way...

the best by far...

Thank you for your interest in Stanford's Medicine Residency Training Program. Last year we interviewed no international medical graduates, and we expect that this policy will not change for the coming season.

This is due to 2 major factors: First, we receive a very large number of applications from highly qualified US graduates. Second, neither the Hospital nor the Department supports sponsoring visas.

We do understand that it is difficult for international medical graduates to "get in the door" for US medical training. In general, West Coast academic programs are less likely to accept IMGs for residencies. On the other hand, some of the community or other non-academic programs in the West might provide the opportunity you seek.

You are more likely to find success at getting into a residency on the East Coast or in the Midwest. We suggest that you apply to most programs in those geographical locations.

All the best in finding training program and, again, thank you for your interest in Stanford.

this was the first email i had got back last yr..

and also the first ppl to reply back this yr.. hope they arent hexin me..

lol

I think its more important to have a "do-not-apply-to" list than an "apply-to" list.

The one from stanford was hilarious; I guess the person there probably thinks himself/herself as "thoughtful" after telling ya to forget the west coast itself.....let alone stanford!

Its like not only do they dont want IMGs...they dont want IMGs within a 100 mile radius....maybe we are contagious stuff and will afflict "highly qualified US graduates" with Mad-Intern-Disease or something!,,

Keep posting these programs here...it will be helpful to all and will be a good, amusing read!!

actually applyin to cali is pretty suicidal if u need an h1.. as only a couple of small comm hosp like kern sponsor h1.. and most of the progs give an j1.. on top of that u need the cali letter which takes a lotta cash and over 6months to get.. and cali letter / reciept is the 4th lor u need to upload.. + amgs die for cali..

cali is gc heaven.. no h1 competitors.. a lot like florida, colorado, carolinas..

Every single program would take all AMG's if they could.... Don't ever forget that. At least they are being nice and telling you that they have enough AMG's interested to fill with only AMGs.

i agree with adeelmd...they really would rather deal with their own people...
to je zivot!!!
at least here, we all do the usmle-american or not...in the uk; the year i graduated, the americans and i were not legible to practice medicine in the uk because of our passports!!!
even though it is kinda hard over here, i feel that it is a much fairer system...

i agree with adeelmd. its just that stanford put in words what we know already. atleast they agreed openly that they take only imgs and saved us our money! there are other programs which say that they do not discriminate based on nationality, yet when it comes to choosing candidates, they don't choose any imgs! so we lose both money and hope. i feel its better if the program openly says that they do not take imgs!

  #14

oh i am sorry, i mistyped, i meant they take only amgs

some programs have it written in their web, we do not accept imgs, I applied last year and didn't match. waisted tons of money, so I'm very carefull. I searched the programs very well, those who do not post their chriteria in their web sites, I sent them emails those who didn't reply. I consider them imgs unfreindly. even those who says we accept imgs,if they have meet our residents in their web I will have a look if there's no colored people, foreign names or unfamilair unversities, they are unfirendly. I met a lady RN, married to a well Known attendant in the biggest medical school in the southeat coast, she told me, her husbant accepted an img form Germani and he is (so behind). lots of amgs do not apply for programs because these programs accept imgs, they even call it the onely draw back of the program, that it has some of they have you know what imgs, so i geuss this why the program directorsdo not want to deal with us ,if they can. read scutwork.com review, very helpfull. good luck for all.

From a program point of view - it's very clearly stated what the program director wants and we still get applications from people who don't meet the basic requirements.

Good luck to all. Maybe we'll meet this recruitment season.
