djacosta...its easy to stand on your little soap box and give out such sermons.I'd like to see you put all you said into practise if something like this happened to you....and if you already have...then thats just you. Most of us are only human! So let her be and find something useful to do with your time rather than chastising people like that.

Rasul, I agree with Miss_doc. If I were in your position, I would apply for a score recheck especially because of the great NBME scores and your own feeling that the scores are not representative of your performance on the day of exam. Mistakes happen- wrong limbs have been amputated and wrong blood grouped organs transplanted even in this country. I dont think you have anything to loose. Even if the recheck happened to show a lower and therefore failed score, you will have the opportunity to prove through a second attempt that you are indeed capable of a much greater score.

It is indeed a very personal decision to make after carefully considering the pros and cons. I am really sorry for your situation and hope things work out. Good luck!

i agree with lisaM but the final decision is yours rasul after considering all the pros and cons for yourself.

has anyone got a correction in scores after getting a reevaluation done ? pls let rasul know.

and djacosta, man whats your prob !! agree that there are many things in life which are imp and we should be thankful for them but this is not the way to let someone know that at a time when she has not got the result she expected. and i think rasul too realises all that you said. to not feel happy at a result like this is just normal and does not mean that she will not be able to see pts in future or will not be a good doc. indifference to a result like this or not feeling bad about it will be denial. and i think it was easy for you to talk big because it was not your result. and next time be easy on those big words.

Sorry to hear about the results rasul.I can only advice putting myself in your shoes. If I were you,I definitely would have got my scores rechecked. Its better to fail (according to my logic) than to be stuck with this score for your life.Look at it this way.Looking at your nbme scores and everything,it is impossible that you scored a 75.So there must be some error there.Even if they deduct marks and you fail God forbid, then still U can try again and get what ever you feel your confidence level is.But if you didnot get it rechecked,U will stay confused for your entire life questioning what went wrong and how to prepare for the other exams...If I am getting those UW and nbme scores,I will never settle for a 75,no matter what!!!So get it rechecked if u believe in yourself and stop the self pity right away.I am sure it will not cause any harm.God bless.

Hi, guys! I'm back! ( I mean, old I- highly motivated, strong and energetic person you know). I'll make it!
Was able to study today-I'll be fine!
About apllying for re-checking -I agree, it's better to fail than to get stuck with low score. The only person in the world who disagrees with me is my husband- for him there's no difference-his wife passed the exam anyway, 70+ or 90+. Since my score somehow became a family matter, I decided to hold off. Maybe when I take Step1 and get high score, he'll change his opinion and offer himself to reassess step2ck results.
Right now I'm very optimistic- I have my head on my shoulders, and I have the knowledge, and I have a very caring and patient-oriented character, and I'll have great recommendation letters, and nice PS, and beautiful step1 and step3 scores!
Let everything be perfect, and that 75 score will become pretty self-explanatory.
And I won't stop fighting till I win!
Rasul

Way to go Rasul!!!You're a fighter and you will win!Good luck!

Yes, Rasul, way to go. Don't let the optimism wane. What people have been typing aren't just empty words to console. They have logic in them. I think you've arrived at a sensible decision now, and you've done it quickly. Well done. Good luck always.

(I think Djacosta was perhaps, trying to be of help in his own pathetic way).

rasul, it's nice to hear your optimistic words - you are a strong person - good luck!

optimism and hope is beautiful for this green earth but we must see things for what they are.

this is my opinion. im not sure if your family understands you have nothing to lose if u recheck. plenty of imgs do not match every year because of a low score. and 75 is really a bare minimum. because of the competition among imgs nowdays, very undesireable hospitals get applcations from 85++ imgs, so you'll have to compete against them, and EVERYONE else really. its truly bottom of the barrel and none of your previous achievements matter.

passing the usmles on a borderline score isnt a blessing unlike other exams. because you cannot retake this exam if you pass with a low score, you are stuck with it. i personally think it would be a blessing if you recheck and were told you failed cause that would allow you to take the exam again. your chance to get a 99. i feel a 99 on a second attempt is waay stronger than a 75 on the first - and u look like you can achieve it.

also please please make sure theres no deadline to rechecxk your scores. if u change your mind and decide to recheck the last thing you wanna hear is that youve missed some deadline. then you'd be truly stuck!

optimism for future exams is great, but lets straighten out our past if we get a second chance to. thereafter you'll extinguish all possible what if's that should ever crop up.

Thank you all very much for your support. I wasn't logging in for quite long time because I'm getting ready for my CS. I'm taking it on July13. I'm also applying for recheck of my CK score.Hope they'll tell me to retake it coz I didn't pass.
Your opinion is of a great value for me. Again, thank You for support.

apply for the manual recheck...

Hi Rasul,
I am sorry for your result. I can understand ur state of mind since even I got very disappointed with my step 1 score which was below my expectations. But Rasul what I want to tell you is that you need to decide for urself if you can take a chance. Now say you go for a re-check there are three possibilities - one, an increase in ur score, that's good, then the same score is confirmed and thirdly, as others had quoted, a drop in ur score. So u are to decide whether you can gamble and also know ur capabilities with the exam. In case with the recheck you get a better score or the same score then it's okay. U would be fine. But in case u get a lower score that means you would not be passing the step and will have to take the step again. Then comes ur confidence that u CAN make it with a good score the next time u give the step. That is a big gamble. Though it's sad one has to accept the way the fate goes. Life doesn't go the way one desires. And so the next time u give the step u may end up with a better score but also at the same time with a similar low score. So that's the gamble. Of course with ur scores at the prepartion time u may do well. But think well. All I want u to do is sit and think of all the pros and cons in the further actions. So make up u mind. If u want to go for a recheck think about all these things and do it.

Any word yet? Looking forward to hearing that the USMLE made a mistake! With those scores you were getting there is no way you could have scored that low.
