Good!: in addition Candida is actually normal flora but can flourish in the immunocompromised, commonly in HIV or IVDA its Candidiasis of the esophagus. You could REFLEXIVELY think Crytococccus in HIV or IVDA. Histoplasmosis is usually near Ohio/Mississippi River Valley. Mucor, I think Diabetes. {for those who are not aware Im associating IVDA with HIV since this is how USMLE would wantyou to think!}

For the record, about a year or so ago I had a blood culture turn positive on day four. Gram stain showed yeast. I called the doctor and the patient was a drug abuser that had signed herself out AMA (against medical advice). Blood culture subsequently grew C. neoformans. I believe patient was also HIV positive. Aspergillus would not show up as a yeast - it is not dimorphic. Likewise, Mucor is not either. Based on my experience in the lab, I would go with C. neoformans.
