b is more potent you need less, its closer to y axis. Im not sure how to quantify it but it only takes a few mgs to reach the same efficacy.

Thats right. B is more potent than A. B is 15 times more potent.

(Also note: Potency does NOT indicate anything about duration of action, toxicity, margin of safety or Vd.)

Of course in this case B is the answer because it reaches a threshold to relieve pain at lower dose.

We can assume that drug B is 15 time more potent than drug A (60/4=15). Provided that pain in the same patient (has the same pain intensity).

Another e.g

Drug A: need 60mg for pain relief in patient with myocardial infarction
Drug B: need 4mg for pain relief in patient with chronic arthritis

what drug is more potent?

WE CANNOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION.

TRY THIS QUESTION

In a patient,

Drug A, produces 50% effect at dose 50, reaches its maximum effect at dose 100

Drug B, 50% effect at dose 25, maximum effect at dose 150.

which one is more potent, which one is more efficicacous?

B more potent
and we can't tell about efficacy.

  #8

B is more potent to achieve 50% and 100% effect.
Efficacy: both the same or can't say?

Excellent Asherif, 100% you're right

we cannot say about efficacy because we do not know how much of their effect.

We do know the dose at which each drug reaches a maximal effect, so.....???

no need to know the dose at which the drug reaches its maximal effect, we just want to know how much its maximal effect is.
