Hi guys, Some people told me it would be easier for IMGs to get good LORs from hospitals in NY city compared to other hospitals in the US since they are more used to foreign doctors and therefore appreciate their qualities more... What do you guys think?

I've said it over and over. Get the best letters that you can get. The best. Overseas or here - the best.

My program hires more than 20 residents every year. Most have never done a rotation, elective or observership in the USA. Again - get the best letters that you can get.

LifeInTheFastLane.....in my case they are professors from my medical school.Heck,I've had to draft my own dean's letter too cos the one they normally give out is a pathetic five liner stating "blah was a regular student at this school in good standing".All this makes me think about all the time I spent being good back in medical school. *sigh* p.s: Apologies for hijacking your thread with these rants drsweden.

Didnt go around looking for these doctors....these are the usual very busy HODs from medschool who happen to be in the position to sign LORs. And they also happen to have enough experience to know to whom they cud give the task of making a rough LOR of their own. Colleagues who suffered an underaverage track record, couldnt 'falsify' their own LORs. Just wanted to clear things up.

pssssst......... dont tell anyone!!!!!... one of my clinical directors back in UK said ''i donot know the format of writing LORS" please write and e-mail whatever you want and i will sign it for you'', when i told him that am not allowed to have a look at it he said tell them that my confidence on you is such that i am allowing you to write your own lor and am ready to sign it with my eyes closed!!!? Other one gave me a letter sealed and signed on the envelope all by himself!! so you get all diffrent types.
