Hi, jinxed131!
It greately depends on where in USA You're staying. In Los Angeles very-very crappy studio-style apartment in safe neighborhood is $800-850 monthly. If You don't eat out too much, and prefer healthy foods and cook for Yourself, then food expenses are appr $300-400 per person (and it's nothing extravagant, just healthy/organic foods). You'll need to pay for amenities, e.g. water, power, gas, DSL, cable TV (coz they are usually not included). You'll also need a car(LA is a very big city, spread on huge territory, and there's a great chance You'll need to commute)-international driver's license $200 = car rental (varies) or actual downpayment and monthly payments for the car, or lump sum payment of at least $7000(if You want safe and decent car, and not smth old and hardly dependable on freeways)+ car insurance.Almost forgot, the airfare and prices for hotels if You're traveling around(the chipest, I'd say, $45, and I mean the chipest, can be much more expensive if You're booking on a short notice or in certain areas, eg, NewYork or SanDiego etc)The food during travel-well, up to $100 per day, coz You're not cooking and prefer to eat healthy foods vs junk food. Transportation during travel- rental car with GPS directions, or Taxi, or Bus or Train(if applicable only).
Well, You do the math!
It's very costly (at least, to me), and it needs thorough planning ahead(where will I stay, is it close to the hospital where I have my interview, is it safe neighborhood.
Quite frankly, I live in LosAngeles for appr 5 years, and there are neiborhoods few blocks away, which I'ld never cross on feet, only in the car (not safe!)

Types of payment accepted- credit cards, checks, cash.
And remeber- USA is nothing like Europe. When I first came I experienced the cullture shock-mostly people are very nice, but some of them are very impolite and loud- also depends on neighborhood.

hi , Rasul thanks a lot for your urgent reply...( i was not expecting such a quick response ) you have given me a quite clear picture of LA....but LA is an exception...what i have heard of ...( might be wrong ..who knows?).....moreover i am not much interested in califonia..LA etc...am just asking about the normal states....where pplz other than movie stars live. ..also u have been living in LA for the last five years...i think that it changes the whole picture a lot...I was actually asking about a guy like me...who goes to states from india..or pakistan...and than appears in cs..than apply for ecfmg certification ...goes for interviews and gets residency and thancomes back...how much this trip costs him...................excluding the exam fees......any other guy....and once again thanks a lot.. Rasul
