stress from infection produces catecholamines, glucocorticoids. This in combination with insulin deficiency produces hyperglycemia and ketoacidosis

Any stress may lead to ketoacidosis in DM1 but infection is the most cause

yes... we get carried away by these stupid things and don't think logically. of course it's C i don't think infection linked increase in stress hormones would take him to hyperketotic coma if he is compliant with insulin. they can increase glicemia, also lack of exercise in an active diabetic could lead to increase in blood glucose, but not as such high levels
