Can anyone tell me where to go for volunteer research work in chicago....although I've eailed + called many hospitals but no progress...please some reply asap.

Go to MonsterJob or Chicagolandjobs and look for postdoc positions - than contact the laboratories. Explain to them that you don't want to commit to a postdoc position, because you don't like to be abused (well, you don't have to tell them the last part), just tell them you have a month or couple of months free and you would like to get involved in a research project, because you find this very intellectually stimulating and you are fascinated when you read scientific papers and you would like to learn more hands on about how research is done and because you've seen that this lab (check the name of the boss in the lab and google for his publication list) has done "groundbreaking research on the epitope of the molecule XYZ, which might be involved in cancer or might be just a precipitate of the protein column when purifying the protein fo interest", anyway contact different labs and offer to volunteer - they would love free labor, trust me.

By the way - why do you want to do research? It doesn't help for getting in residency - most program directors look at you as if you are some lab rat who doesn't like to deal with patients and prefers hiding in the lab. Just curious why you want to do it?
