Hi doctors,
I took my CS in June(1st week). As most other doctors suggested I am repeating the same piece of advice.
1) Please choose an exam study partner day 1 itself-I had a partner for 1 month and practiced on weekends alone
2) the cases are all day to day ones that one might see in a clinic or offfice otherwise-rule is common things common
3) try to practice the UW and FA cases atleast 2times-I mean like in the real exam with a stop watch-itworked out wonderfully for me
4) Always listen to the patients concerns and answer them in a way that satisfies them
5) Try out the Physical exams on each other and always find out the proper method
6) Always wash ur hands and drape them-I did it in all the cases
7) Use the following in each case-Transition sentences, paraphrasing and open ended questions-they are all scored for each of them(practice them in each case)
8) Patient note_ I practiced atleast 30 notes-please try to practice the psychiatry, neurology and the pediatric, OBGYN notes specially because they are a little different and you will find it in the exam definetly
9) the procotrs are very friendly
Last but not the least I am hoping to pass just like the others who took the exam and are awaiting the results
All the best for the test takers
PN:be calm like you will in your office-this makes a lot of difference

Hey guys,
I took just the weekends for a month to prepare for the exam( since I was doing a course). But I studied from 8 AM to 8Pm with my other study partner.
OK -how to summarize: this is what I did
"Now I am going to summatize everything. Please correct me if anything is different from what u said". In this way u remind the patient to give credits for summarizing and also kinda paraphrase some of them. Then just tell the positive Hx and positive physical findings(1 Minute-more than enough). Look for any thing that needs counselling-smoking,alcohol and STDs..Say-as ur physician I am concerned about this. It affect ur body in a number of ways..Close the encounter saying- "Do u have any questions or concerns at this point?"-Then say.".Thanku -I will meet u with the results."

is it better to summarize b4 or after PE?

  #7

I summarised after the PE and just continued with counselling since it was kinda revision for me after summaring the facts.
Protocol that I followed was:
Knock-greet-drape-Hx-wash hands-PE-summary-probable DD and investigations-counsel-answer other questions from SP

thanks for the reply. i've one more que? what mile stones to be asked in a peds case?

I asked for the Growth and Developement in the followng manner:
" When was the last pediatric visit? How is his growth on the growth chart?"
Their reply is" He is on the so and so scale on the growth chart"(mostly within normal range)"
This is because you don't have the time to think and ask specifically about the particular milestone.
