lady was diagnosed as having appendicitis .was put on operation during which it is found that she doesnot have aapendicitis but have ovarian tumour.wat should be done at this stage?

is taking a biopsy of the tumour without consent allowed?

  #2

as crazy as it sounds medically legally I dont think even biopsy is allowed. Surgeon has to close her back up and get a new consent.

I will choose tumor removal.

This case is mentioned in Kaplan as a exception (emergency)

but if the patient is vitally stable, do we consider it an emergency??

appendicitis is an acute emergency,!!!! {maybe this is an exception if she actually has symptoms of appendicitis, which i overlooked} this particular case is acute and emergent.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should awake the patient and ask her a new informed consent.

It's mentioned in High Yield Behavioral Sciences.
