When u do a radioactive 131I uptake test on a pregnant woman, then the child can develpe cretinism. Does ne one know the mechanism of that. how can the child develope hypothyriodism from this???

Because 131I has beta emission which can distroy thyreoid tissue, I suppose.

Any chemical/drug that can cross the BBB barier can also cross the placenta.
