hi fellow strugglers,

its nice to report back to all of u. well couldn't do anything yesterday - a friend dropped by without any notice and since we hadn't met in such a long time, we had so much to catch up on.........and that was the end of the day - no studying. just when i pull myself together, something like this happens and everything goes down the drain. BUT, i'm not disappointed in myself - will pick up my books with a fresh mind-set today.

mytime: thanks for asking, but i was supposed to go the acupuncturist today, but i've cancelled my appointment with her, since i've found another one right next to my house (<1 mile away) and i'm going to this new person tomorrow - will let u know how it goes.

okay guys, i have a meeting in like 5 min, so goodbye for now.

happy studying - all of you!

target: thanks for the pm - will write back to u after my meeting.

Hi all,
I have been trying to elude the group since I had nothing to report. It has almost been 3 weeks and I have done almost close to nothing.
Sometimes I think I dont have it in me to go for this exam.
Reading all of your reports makes me feel so guilty that I dont have as many problems as many of you are facing......God help me! I dont know who else can. I feel so lost at work and keeping up with the house, sons school etc etc but none of the excuses are close to what some of what you guys are facing......Good luck everybody and any suggestions to help me are welcome.

target,

i can understand exactly what u r going thru, but my dear friend, no one said life was going to be easy.........its totally OUR OWN decision to pursue MLE, isn't it? we're not being forced into it, but even then, the day-to-day struggles are anything but easy. well, some day, it'll all seem worth it and if we are diligent enough, that day is not far off. God gives each bird his worm, but he does not put it in its mouth - same way, we have to work for our dreams to come true, but if God has given us this desire, He will make it come to pass.........have faith in Him. He's a prayer-answering God. you know sometimes when i look at some of my girl friends, i feel envious of them, because they r so content with just being a wife and a mother - they have no dreams, no aspirations, no goals - and then i think - is such a life even worth living???? not for me at least and so i've decided to tread this difficult but fulfilling path because 10 yrs from now, i don't want to have any regrets in life.

don't lose hope and have faith in yourself and in your God - you went to med school and then even did PhD - how many people are that smart??? so don't ever underestimate your potential. and don't you ever give up!!!!!!!!!!!! as a family, we're not letting you get away so easily!!!

so cheer up and pick up those books and hit them with a passion...........

God be with you!

Hey guys,

First of all welcome back target smiling face

The reason you are posting in this forum is that deep inside you want to do this exam. You are only finding it hard to give enough time ( like many of us ). I know it is really tough with a full time job and a kid. If you have passion to do it , you can and you WILL do it. There are others who have done it and are doing it in similar situations. In the journal section I was reading 'Dr.mum' s journal. She has a full time job, a kid and is expecting her second baby. All the hardworking people in this forum have great inspirational stories. You can also be one of those success stories, I know for sure. Please do not give up. Have faith in your abilities and in God who is watching all your hard work. Spend a day on formulating a schedule and then stick to the schedule. Start with a target of only a few pages daily and you will see, you will pick up the pace with time. All my prayers and good wishes are with you.

Seems and my time, thank you very much for the link guys. I finally got my Lippincott's today. Will go thru pharmacokinetics and dynamics to morrow again InshaAllah. Now the kids are home and I am also tired today.Got to go .

Good luck to all and cya tomorrow guys.

Hey Target this is mostly for u...
Ur problem is not self-confidence and u know it...It's that u have so greatly convinced urself that u don't need to do this thing.Even i found it difficult to tell u otherwise and then i realized that it has to be ur decision entirely we can only support u.If u don't want to do a resisdency that's different but get there first so that the decision is urs don't leave it to what ifs....I think we are all a little to old for that now.i totally agree with what zenith a nd Unique have said...U come back here only because u want to so lets all say stop lying to urself...thats not a god example u are setting for ur son...But then again u are old enough to know.
Every problem to everyone seems great one day and then someone elses seems greater...make use of the days urs is smaller and slowly u'll be using evryday..problem or not.Girl...Its so about u....U are a wonderful person and I cud see that when we spoke but u have to do something about it not give urself cause to later hate u...Hope i'm making sense.

If u need help starting start at the very beginning...believe me u'l soon catch up.Physio will be a peice of cake after ur work in endo.Start there and keep us info..we are here to help but u have to want it first.

I'm just repating part of JAIDE's quote.....I'm sure it was directed at u. Believe in your strength and your youth. Learn to repeat endlessly to yourself, 'It all depends on me.'

HAHA almost a limmerick!hey by the way i sometimes write poetry(nothing great though..but i do and love it....i wrote a few for my baby too.)...don't tell many people though u are family now.
So back to Gross for me..it looks small and easy but phhhhhht its a lot.
I wonder how everyone else is doing looks like having fun studying.Good Luck yeall.Later!

  #569

we sure do have a wonderful family here - i'm sure by now target is all pepped up and ready to attack her books.

mytime: i'm so sorry to hear about your migraine - hope u're feeling better now. please don't shy away from taking a pill if u really need it (remember, u were the one who told me this!)

okay, as for me, i finally started immunology. i have a question for unique/oldkid or anyone else who has completed immunology - did u guys watch dr. don dunn's video - was it worth it? i have 2004 kalpan notes, but i figured that his slides were a lot different from my notes. did u people also notice the same thing? please do let me know. thanks!

Hi everybody,

I am so proud to be part of this family. It is really overwhelming to see you guys eager to help me out. I think I have given enough excuses and I know I want it....otherwise I am not going to be happy when I die....at least I should know I tried......like mytime said. I also would like the decision to be in my hands whether I choose research or medicine or both.
Jaide I love your quote - it is designed for me -YES IT DEPENDS ON ME. Thanks for the time schedule. Last night, I drew up a little time table - it is pretty stringent but it gets my first reading all done in 2.5 to 3 months time with questions. I had originally thought of doing the subjects by organ system wise and I think I am going to go back to that mode. I had switched plans when I joined this forum because I was afraid of micro and biochem and though these dry subjects I would only do if I had company. Atleast I am half way through biochem and micro and could try to finish it with the organ systems whenever I have free time.

THe good news is - I started with Respiratory system and finished gross in Hi Yield and side by side reading Hi Yield by Mehta to guide me through the organ systems. I have already fallen in love with this book. Anybody else has used this.....any comments?

Tonight and tomorrow I plan to finish physio and path in Resp system and will do Pharm on Sunday. Everyweek I designed it to be for one system. I guess there is no more time to be lost ......this is my last chance. I studied upto 12.30 last night and woke up at 6 a.m and studied for an hour this morning which made be scrape through school campus to drop off my son on time. But I think I can squeeze hours here and there during my experiments and stick to my time table. I plan to do questions at the end of every system to see how well I have read. I have decided that Goljan speaks to me while I am on the bus to and fro....and walk to house. Does this plan sound good to you guys.......2nd read I will include first aid.

To Zenith...I know that this USMLE is a tough route for me in life right now, but like you said God has put this desire in me and I know that is His plan for me. In Him I am going to trust and with his help I shall be able to crash this exam which has eluded me for nearly 6 years.

Unique - I read the dr. mums journal - I felt I had more time than her but just less determination. Thanks for your support - I promise to work hard........otherwise I would not be justified to be in this group, right?

Mytime......all I can say about you is that you are really a swweeeeeeeeeett and determined person. I feel like I have a sister to push and shove me. A big thank you to you from the bottom of my heart.

To all other lovely people in the forum...........take care and good luck with studying. Make the most of the weekend! ( Look who is talking .......but I am the "NEW" TARGET!!

Hi Folks

Late Reply for target but I would suggest that Don't give up...there is nothing in a world which gives you pleasure than being a doc. Its little hard work which you may forget after sometime when you'll be busy seeing patients in your office. So hit it!!! We all are struggling for it with our own reasons. Some are moms and some are dads, some are young and some not so young, some are working and some not and some are sick and some are not but they all have one thing in common..to achieve what we dreamt of when we were school kids...and now grown up adults with the same dream yet to be fullfilled...and now to live up to the expectations of our loved ones. Like unique said you want to thats why you are here...I think i suggested you or seems to make a schedule and try your best to stick to it. Best would be to have a date in your mind when you want to attempt this exam and make it in a reverse direction..starting from your day of exam and going till today and make it achievable and doable, flexible. Then you move on you will find yourself in a better situation one month from now. Your USMLE friends are here to guide you and take your guidance too.

Zenith: I did watch his videos though they are entirely different from the text in KLN but it does give you some concept. Its not advisable to do again. I didn't do his Micro section coz its all cramming.

Well guys, I am at Patho doing initial few chapters and listening to audio too.

Hope to find more posts from you guys!!!!

Keep motivated and motivating...nodnodnod

For zenith : I watched the immuno video. As oldkid said, it helps in getting the basic concepts and it is better than his micro lectures.

Rest of the family, I am in a rush . Will talk to you later.

Happy studying and Good luck.smiling face

i am sure i will get lot of replies and suggestions from this group.

Dear friends,
Good to be back. Finally i am done with physio. Next starting Anatomy.
I am going to read kpl note with BRS.
Oldkid... what do you suggest for neuroanatomy? Is HY notes enough? I am poor in this area and may need some in depth reading.
Mytime.. It is very kind of you to give encouraging words to all of us Thank you very much and we need that kind of talks now and then to keep our morale at a steady level.

Target... Your plan sounds ok. Do not let temporary setbacks to slow your long term goals USMLE.

Zenith..I too watched the immun/micro video. Yes, in my opinion the immuno part is more useful than micro. I have a feeling that listening to these tapes does help to retain some of the otherwise uninteresting facts in our brain.
The rest of the lovely guys in the family- You are doing a great job and Keep it up.
May God blessyou. Love

Hi Friends

Welcome to sharmaa 21. I am with Patho and enjoying it so far. Initial few chapters are boring but they have lot of info.

Proctalgia: Well if you want to do indepth then you can refer to Snell's Neuroanatomy but that will take bulk of your time. Other option would be to do BRS. I saw that book long time ago I think it was ok. HY is basically cramming but its also a good book. You can read HY only and supplement it with good diagrams from Snell's if you want to save time and understand facts.

I am delighted to have a day off today, though I didn't make most of it but I have another one tomorrow. I am happy.

GL and happy reading to all of you.
