He guys, Looks like everybody making good progress. I am going through pelvis and abdomen anatomy today. Yes oldkid I think you are correct. We two are the only dads here. Very interesting. So oldkid you are reading Goljan notes. I too have some notes and audio from Goljan. Is it the system pathology that you are reading? Does Goljan has a separate part for general pathology? I am a bit confused about this. Oldkid, Pls let me know your idea about this. Mytime now where are u in ur studies? I guess u are done with embryo and anatomy. I do hope all other are doing very well. GL to all. LOVE

seems: belated happy anniversary! hope u had fun..... oldkid: thanks for your offer to help - really appreciate it!! after such great reviews, i guess it'll be worthwhile to buy this book. by the way, what are the goljan slides u r talking about. would it be possible for you to email the link to me? please let me know. jaide: where r u doing Pathology from? as for my progress - did 2 chapters of immuno yesterday and then went out for dinner with a couple of friends. we went to this really nice italian restaurant - my mouth is watering thinking about all that food, but alas, i'm at work right now. guess what friends, as if this damn neck and shoulder pain was not enough, i now have hallux valgus - in my case, its hereditary rather than ill-fitting shoes. its a little painful at present and i want to do something about it before it progresses. i've now started looking for a podiatrist in my area. actually i'm a little confused - can't decide whether to go to a podiatist or orthopedic surgeon - any suggestions?????? above all, i thank God for his bountiful blessings!!! He is a good God irrespective of our circumstances. a few useful pearls i learnt recently: LAD (Leukocyte adhesion def) - absence of CD18 Examples of opsonins: antibody and C3b CGD - def of NADPH oxidase. Pts. suffer from chr, rec inf with catalase-+ve org. detected by NBT reduction test and NOI. MHC class-I express CD8 (remember 1x8=8) MHC class-II express CD4 (remember 2x4=8) u can come up with a better pneumonic. IL-3 -asso with stimulation of myeloid cell precursors in the bone marrow. IL-7 -asso with stimulation of lymphoid cell precursors in the bone marrow. seems: may be u can add to this list since u r also doing immunology these days. for the rest, why don't u guys also add something new to the list everyday (from whatever subject u r studying)? i don't know if u like the idea - just thought it'll be useful for everyone. take care everyone. happy studying.

Hey guys, Good to hear from all of you. Zenith, you read your material really well. It means 2nd read will be a breeze for you. I have old immuno notes which totally match with the videos . When I read immuno, I forgot that I had new ones too and remembered after reading everything from the old ones . Silly me.....now I hope I remember to read the new ones in my 2nd read. Seems, you are doing great girl!!!!! Keep up the good work. Seems like you are not sleepy today Mytime and proctalgia, how is high yield ?? I have read very good reviews about it . Does it have some information other than Kaplan or is it concise or what ?? Why do people so highly recommend it for anatomy ??? Would appreciate any input from you. Oldkidontheblock, will only Goljan be enough for an " oldie " like me??? or will I need to read something else ( Robbins )too ????? Isn't Robbins a little too much ??? If I read from more than one source , only patho will take me 6 months What do you suggest???? Jaide , as far as I remember your internship is going to end soon. Good for you that you can give full time to your mle then. Wish you GL. Target and Rashmi verma , hope you are doing great with your studies. Please do let us know where are you studies wise. Now time to report my progress. I learned ANS today but here comes another break of three days Hubby and kids want to go for a mini vacation before winter and hubby has already reserved a hotel . I can't decide if I am or or ?????? Well...... I guess I am happy You know everyone has their own circumstances . I cannot study like an unmarried fresh graduate and take this test in 3-4 months. For me , my family comes first . If I am doing my best in my circumstances , I am satisfied with it. I will go slow and steady and will reach my goal InshaAllah. I will see you on Monday InshaAllah. Till then happy studies and take care everyone.

oops...forgot....i did hy for na....it has the same stuff as kaplan..but is more concise and personally i likes it better..but that isnt saying that kln is missing anything..they both cover pretty much the same stuff...but i would still choose hy ..the style is diff i guess...

hi gang, HELLO to everyone, its gives me feeling of belonging to this usmle family, its sharing and caring, we all share studies and other personal ups and downs of life. UNIQUE its nice to hear that yur daughter is better now, GOD takes care of all of his children, who believe in GOD. I just did systemic path, I felt that robbins will be a waste of time, goljan audio with rewiew is must, but I also did BRS, it kind of brushes up old fundas. I know things are different for us , we need to dig out fundas, I am just in same situation, it would have been so easy if Iwould have taken usmle when I finished med school in 1995. OLDKID-if U could help me with this problem, I got goljan CD from ebay, it has slides but nothing is marked or explained, how do Icorrelate? ZENITH good immuno notes. MYTIME, TARGET, SEEMS, JAIDE, EVERYBODY ELSE HAPPY STUDYING.
I am just coming back from opthalomologist visit, guess now I got staph keratoconjunctivitis, so I am on date with tobradex something or else in life. I am also debating like unique, hubby wants to go on vacation after his exams, LIFE is a balance studies ,family, I GUESS ALL moms KNOW what I AM TALKING ABOUT, but keep working on yur dreams with all other aspects of life. BYE GANG

Hey friends, new n lost... Thank u for ur kind words about our supermoms.Studyig is really fun when these gals are around. I am going to do upper limb and MCQs on pelvis/Abdomen tonight. Mytime, I gues u arre correct. May be i will do general path next. Unique1 , You asked about HY notes. This is rather concise and good if u are short of time. HY also gives us an idea about the areas that need more of our attention. I would rather read KPL first and go for HY just before exam. Good luck gl. Oldkid.. read my previous post and reply. Hope you are doing well.. Hi Zenith. TNK U for immuno in small doses. Please continue your booster doses to upgrade our memory Everyone else. HI to all...... Keep going. Take Care and GL

Dear Friends Sorry for my late reply. Actually I took a day off and we went for Ramadan shopping plus buying gifts for our upcoming visit to Canada. I couldn't be online yesterday. I saw many posts asking questions and I am sorry I was little late in replying. Well I will try to answer them for you. PROCTALGIA: We are indeed the only 2 superdads in here. I am doing systemwise patho now. Theres is as such no division in the book. Its just taken conventionally that till Neoplasia it is considered General and then the rest is System wise Patho. I hope its ok now. MYTIME: Doing HY and KLN for Anatomy in my view is a good idea. I think in KLN the text is too much as compared to HY which will be a negative point few days before the exam. But again I feel the stuff in KLN has more clinical co relations than HY. ZENITH: I am sorry I got a little late in sending you the link (which I lost myself) and I was thinking of emailing you the rar files I have stored in my pc. I think its the same link new_n_lost has posted. You check it out if its working and the stuff is there. If it doesn't work do let me know I'll mail it to you. Its really worth studying. SEEMS: I hope you are going fine in Immuno. Its all very interesting stuff there and highly board relevant specially the diseases. Its all very nicely described in KLN. But the video is a disappointment. UNIQUE: I would certainly not recommend doing Robbins. Instead you have two options one is to do Patho from Robbins pocket book or BRS and then ofcourse from Goljan. I have done this Robbins in my med school time. Its a good book but doesn't have any pics. RASHMI: Same goes for you what I have advised Zenith. Tell me if you don't get the slides. In the end I would like to say welcome to NEWNLOST. Keep posting here off n on. Also, I would like to hear from dartikaz, leprikhan and others who haven't reported for a long time. I hope they are ok and doing well in their career building. Good luck to all of you.

ZENITH sorry abt. that folly of mine i knew that i was making a blunder...just didn't know i'll go from being live to dead that soon. ..So how are u feeling now..any better or hope u don't plan an outing this weekend too..U'd better study..u just had italian..or u'll put on weight like me. So better option..books..half day..morning and husband the rest..one evening do household work and next go have fun with him then u won't feel ur pain so much next week.U better do this and tell me i'm good at hypnotism....... Jaide......JAIDE what wud we be without u?So glad u are a Doc now...u know what i mean.Congratulations on the completion of ur internship...how do u feel?U are doing gt work with ur books.if u have it in u carry on and if u need a short break that's ok and well deserved too.We are right here with u. RASHMI sees like u are doing good too..Keep it up.u can take a break as well if u sincerely catch up later. Now i feel like a prof. UNIQUE1 sorry abt. not replying earlier was trying to keep my promise to self of finishing my bit first...though i was tempted after ur mail. OK read both HY is better coz that's the kind of stuff u'll get...but no harm done in reading both...since u already have Kaplan... SEEMS I didn't realize we missed a celebration..........not fair.Am glad u had fun though.Looks like u are doing good...Thanks for inquiring about my son he's doing ok right now and i'm all crossed.............so u see. for now. TARGET...taking a small break..it's ok...just come back fast...don't wanna miss u too much....GL. Hey guys , I am back and not in a mood to study after having vacation (typical me ) Breaks are usually rejuvenating for people but not for me. I always find it hard to restart my studies after a break I guess my non study mode is partly because of the reason that I have to study pharma Today I have been finding every excuse to not study and deep inside I know it is because of Pharma , so I have decided to start Patho from tomorrow and Pharma in small doses (5 pages a day) along with it. Let's see if this strategy works. New_n_lost , thank you very much for visiting your neighbours and for oodles of praise. This praise is a morale booster for all of us and is never enough so we will be looking forward to your next visit Zenith, sorry to hear that you were not so well.Hope you are feeling better now and will be able to come back to books soon. Mytime, Rashmi and Oldkidontheblock, thank you very much for your kind advice about the books. I hope you are doing good with your studies. Weekend is over now and hope you will report soon. Seems , miss your cute posts. Jaide, good one as always. Hope you are going full steam ahead now . Lucky you.....can devote all day to studies. It reminds me of my good old days.
Target, I hope you get done with that urgent piece of work soon and join us back ASAP. And last but definitely NOT the least, Proctalgia, you are doing great man!!!! You and oldkid .... both you Superdads in the gang always have some progress to report. That is simply great OK guys, GL...Keep studying and please remember me in your prayers . Cya tomorrow InshaAllah , hopefully with some progress to report

it sure is getting dull here - where is everyone? unique: its so good to have u back. its going to take a while to get back into the study mode, but hang in there............vacations are always fun, coming back from a vacation is never really that exciting. welcome back to this mundane life with its day-to-day struggles!!! sorry if i'm making it more difficult for u!!!!! but u had enough fun - now get back to the GRIND - no more excuses!! mytime: i can imagine - doing NA must be torture - I'm really not looking fwd to doing anatomy, esp. neuro anatomy!!!!!!! seems- come on girl - enough hiding - report to the forum asap!! howz immunology coming along? i'm still stuck with it, but its coming along fine. target: hang in there!! jaide, rashmi - how r u two doing? last but not the least, how are the 2 superdads doing? great i hope!!! okay, lets stimulate our brain cells for a while: humoral immunity provides defense against extracellular agents as opposed to CMi which protects against intracellular pathogens. thymus independent antigens create no memory and stimulate only IgM. isotype switching is directed by TH2 cells. IgM: main immunoglobulin of pri immune response, after which IgG is produced. IgM activates complement, is a pentamer joined by J chains. IgG: has 4 subtypes, activates complement, opsonizes, mediates ADCC and is the only antibody transported across the placenta. IgA: dimer with J-chain; produced in submucosa and is an imp component of breast milk. IgE: binds to mast cells and basophils; mediates immediate Type I allergic reactions and protects against parasites. IgD: not well understood, except that its present on the B-cell as a naive B-cell antigen receptor. Uncontrolled activation of the complement cascade due to deficiencies of the complement regulatory components (C1, C3, C5): Examples: Hereditary angioedema, Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria. DTH (delayed-type hypersensitivity) skin test measures TH1 function. Eg: Mantoux/Lepromin tests. TH1 cells stimulate : 1. Macrophages (kill by lytic enzymes, TNF, NO and oxygen radicals) 2. CTL's (kill by perforins, granzymes, cytokines, Fas/FasL) 3. NK cells (kill by perforins, granzymes and enhanced by IFN-alpha, beta and IL-12; inhibited by MHC class I; counted with CD 56 and CD 16). got to get back to work - rest tomorrow!! study well all of u!
