man sometimes i hate the weekends ,they r suh waste of time .somehow can nvere study on weekends .
anyways finally did wz micro,i dunt think i remebr everything but just did the first reading ,now started immuno . i wana finish it fast .that teacer is tooooo slow but explains the basics pretty well ,so am listening to it .

Hi Friends
Zenith & Unique: Well, I went for B and found out it was incorrect. This shows how rusty my mind is and I need further workup on Bio there. Impressed by unique. Questions in MLE seem simple but they aren't. I was just wondering if you could explain if any clue was there in the Souther blots.
Mytime: I am not yet in Canada. I am planning to be there this Eid which I will celebrate hopefully after 7 years with my sister and 4 years with my brother there.
Target: I think Kaplan is ok but HY would be a better choice. I think you just turn over the pages and try to compare both the texts and see which one suits you.
Seems: Patho is ok. Sometimes becomes difficult when I am listening to audio, seeing the slides and doing the additions simultaneously. Goljan's audio is good stuff so far.
Well, I am post night call now. Expecting to be a day zero for me study wise.

hi everybody,
It looks everybody is catching up after weekend, nice to see everybody back.
Although everybody got the answer, I tried to solve the question this way,
looking at pedigree chart, males are affected, females are carrier, its clear.So its X LINKED.
Now if we start from top,I-2 IS THE CARRIER , as she passed the gene, males got affected that is II-1,AND females I mean her daughters 50% will be carriers(which is II-3 IN THIS CASE, 50% will be normal in this case its II-5)
II-5 did not have carrier gene , she is homozygously normal (this we make by looking at III-3,4 males are not affected)
SO ANSWER is o% for III-2, AS SHE is homozygously normal.
THANKS FOR ASKING, my hubby did good in exam, lets wait for the result.

Mytime: Thanks for the comments to minimize my distractions and actually I tried doing that today and it worked! You are a pro.......but dont outthink yourself. Sometimes people say what you think first is most of the time right. It is in my case usually.
Oldkid: Thanks for answering my question. I like Hi Yield so far.....I will compare with Kaplan.
Rashmi: I am glad you husband did good. Now that should be an inspiration for you.
Seems: Good to see you and keep going.
Unique: You thrill us with awesome questions and good that many tried. We should not hesitate to be wrong ......afterall is our USMLE family. As for me I had no clue....I would have just guessed.
Anyway my progress: Went home and hit the bed for a nap at 7 p.m and never woke up. It felt like a dream when my son came to my bed and cuddled saying "Cartoon network is over".........well now I just took advantage and saw TV instead of his usual half hour. Bottom line, woke up at 1 a.m. and was fresh ......thought of going back to bed .......but I know I have to catch up on a lot......so hit physiology and finished resp system from Kaplan and finished the questions too! Half hour of exercise anddropped my kid and back on the bus with Goljan.......listened to Cell injury Hypoxia 1st lecture......I love that guy (Hope his wife doest read the forum). So I have some time now at work during an incubation and am going to hit the books!!!
Old kid/ Jaide /others - How does BRS compare with kaplan for pathology, either one is fine. I plan to read Goljan but I have only the 100 page notes and audio. Is rapid review a must? I dont have it

hi everyone,
good to see that everyone tried to answer the Qs - good reasoning there, rashmi.
well, i'm really busy at work these days - working on a big project with my boss - the findings of which he'll be presenting in Ireland next month. that means - can't write much as i have tons of work to complete.
i have a question though - what is Goljan's rapid review - is it his 350 or 500 pages of notes???

ZENITH: I am doing from this one. Its Rapid review series Patho by EFG 2004. It has in total 463 pages but the initial text is till page 338. The last pages are 2 Tests and their discussion followed by Index.

Hey guys,
Good to see almost everyone posting.
Mytime, you guessed it right. My daughter was having her asthma episode since the weekend . Alhamdulillah she is doing fine now and I hope she can go to preschool tomorrow. Due to all this , I had a couple of sleepless nights and could not study at all in the last few days . I did immuno before micro and had started Pharma but could read only the general principles until now. Hope life will come back on track from tomorrow.
Target, It is great to see you progressing so well. keep it up dear.
Oldkid , you are also going full steam ahead. I have also ordered rapid review yesterday. I was planning to finish pharma by the end of September but it does not seem to be possible now. I can understand how exciting it would be to celebrate Eid with your loved ones after such a long time.
Zenith, How is immuno going?

Ok guys , due to my daughter's illness I have a lot to catch up , both in house work and studies. Sometimes I feel totally drained as I am feeling today 
Being a student, a house keeper , a wife and a mom at the same time is EXTREMELY TOUGH . Your hands are completely full with all these responsibilities and when any one in the family is sick then everything goes out of control. It takes a few days in coming back in routine . But........who said life was going to be easy???
So no complains
There is someone watching over us. HE is the one who puts dreams in our eyes and HE is the one who will give us strength to work towards fulfilment of these dreams.

hey guys
great to see that everyone is doing SOMETHING,thats waht matter.
its funny i posted yesterday in the morning and it showd soooo late .i was waiting for the right answere and when chechkd it in th eveening ,my post was like at the end of the page.anyways finally E is the answere han? and yeah the expalination was the same.i said ill say it only if the answere was right.its teh xlinked thingyyy.
anyways unique i didnt report at night ,cz i heard his videos, 2 lectures and then tried reading them frm th ebook,but the book has a lot more edition,this seems like an old video. couldnt do much reading after that cz ent 4 exercise an dthen when came back was dead tired so didnt study,after that .
today will do something good INSHA ALLAH.

I had this absolute nagging feeling that u were having trouble..i'm so sorry for the little one..the one thing we hope for is that she grows out of it soon.Wish i cud do or say more but there isn't.And i'm sorry about how u are feeling right now but hey tomorrow is another day...and as u rightly said...GOD is with us..will pray for u and the little one....Give her a kiss from me..ok?

Sorry to hear about your daughter - my heart goes out for kids with asthma...but like mytime said I am sure she will outgrow it. I will keep her in my prayers. You girl, you motivated me to study and now I am here for you.....Keep your strength in God and he will make you do much more than what you thought you can achieve in a day. I start my day with a little prayer the last few days and feel that he is there beside me when I am studying and appreciating all what it takes for us to fulfill his destiny in life for us.
He has given, precious little gifts to all of us and sees how well we use it. We have come this far......we shall cross the river together......with HIm and this little family of ours.
By the way, mytime when did you become everybody's sister! Though you joined this family a little late, you are the livewire of this forum.
Shrunt, Jaide, Proctalgia , where are you guys! We miss you all ...Hop in. The afternoon experiment, a totally new idea, was a blast the very first time! Hurray!

I love ppl. and hate suffering in pain.....think i'm in the right profession?
Why are we here if not looking for support? And to get support we have to give it first....and everyone here knows it.....
As far as being everyone's sister goes, I guess I have grown younger with time...they used to call me universal mom in school and college. Thank you guys...but hey not everyone's sis i'm sure.....I have a husband,too remember?......

Numerous distractions in the last couple of days.In any case i should make it a point to come here even if there is nothing to reprt. It is so encouraging and inspiring to read the entries of you nice folk here- Mytime, Zenith,Oldkid,unique, target and the rest of the gang.
You all are doing great, despite ups and dopwns of daily lives.Your support to each other is absolutely marvelous and It is indeed a privilege to be in this forum.
Tonight i plan to read abdominal section of KPL anatomy. If time permits hope to view video too.

thanks oldkid for the link - do u have any idea if this is the same as the 500 pages (about 200 for Gen Path and 300 for Systemic Path) of Goljan's class notes? does this book go well with his lectures or are there differences? Please let me know - i might have to order the book if this is what Dr. Goljan follows with his audio.
good to hear that u r planning to visit your siblings after a long time. when exactly is eid? i know what it feels like to not see your brother/sister for sooooooo long. i met my brother (my only sibling) after 3 yrs when i went to my country last year. we do keep in touch by phone/email/chat, but its not the same as being together. anyways, hope u have a blast!
unique: i'm so sorry to hear about your little angel - it must be really tough on you. i hope and pray that she is hale and hearty now. i just can't stand the thought of kids suffering - that is why i've never thought of doing Pediatrics as a speciality! take care my dear friend - God always gives us enough grace and strength to meet the challanges in our lives.
target: please take back the title of "livewire" from mytime. after being on this thread for so long, she was surprised to find out that i work.........i would've mentioned it a million times already that i work full-time!!!!! well, never mind, you're forgiven!! but last chance..........
seems - u're doing good, girl. u're right - i think the lectures are really old - there's a lot of new stuff in the book. actually whatever he talks about is all there in the book - not necessarily in the same order though!
proctalgia: keep up the good work and visit us everyday! (look who's talking!!)
by the way, i went for my 2nd acupuncture visit yesterday. haven't noticed much change in my pain - but its too early to say anything - praying for good results as the sessions increase.
tonight, i'm meeting up with 2 of my girl friends for dinner - hubby is still not back from his trip to NY - really missing him now - he's coming back tomorrow night - can't wait............
till then, my battle with immunology is on...........

i have nothing much to report yesteday was our wedding aniversary so didnt study much,just did one smalllllll chapter of immuno.
i thought i ll cover it today but ,what is it with immuno that makes me go to sleep i dunt know no. 3 times i just kept my head on the book and slept for 20 minutes or more.

Dear Friends.......I hope all of you are fine and studying hard...
Well, I am still doing Patho from Goljan and its a nice book straightly aimed to Board relevant stuff. I think better than BRS. It was good to do Bio and Anatomy before doing it coz initially few concepts are co-related. I will take another 10 days to finish it. I am behind in audio and may be they will take even longer.
Mytime: I am going for Landing as part of my Canadian immigration. Its nice to see them after sometime. Since both of them are parents now. It will be fun to see my nephews and neice for the first time. I can hardly wait to be there. Also, my son will be delighted to meet his cousins there.
Unique: I am sorry to hear about your child. Yes, I know how difficult it is to see your daughter sick. I can remember the day when I discovered a swelling in the axilla of my child when he was just 3 months old which turned out to be BCG lymphadenitis and was given Isoniazid for 6 months and he had toothpaste like material coming out of the abscess which I dressed daily for 5-6 months. I can feel what you are going through but inshallah she will out grow asthma soon as childhood asthma has very good prognosis.
Zenith: If it was possible I could have scanned the whole book and posted it but I don't have high speed net and neither I am aware of the technology. Anyway, the book which I told you goes very well with his audio and also Goljan slides which I downloaded from this forum. One suggestion for those who plan to do Goljan is Do GOLJAN SLIDES too coz there is lot of info given there which Goljan has mentioned verbally and is not in his book but in the description of those slides.
Proctalgia: Where are you man? I think you were doing physio so finally I think you are done with it? I think we two are the only dads in the forum apart from all the moms..
Seems: Where are you now in studies? Ramadhan is on 23 or 24 of this month and eid will fall a month later.
Here it will be special ramadan timings. 2 hours reduced so it will be basically 5 hours work daily. This is a blessing for people like me whose glycogen store vanishes quickly, to work in Gulf.
I hope rashmi, dartikaz, target are doing fine....sorry if I forgot any body else.
GL and yes everybody is invited on Eid!!!
