Hi everybody,

I am so proud to be part of this family. It is really overwhelming to see you guys eager to help me out. I think I have given enough excuses and I know I want it....otherwise I am not going to be happy when I die....at least I should know I tried......like mytime said. I also would like the decision to be in my hands whether I choose research or medicine or both.
Jaide I love your quote - it is designed for me -YES IT DEPENDS ON ME. Thanks for the time schedule. Last night, I drew up a little time table - it is pretty stringent but it gets my first reading all done in 2.5 to 3 months time with questions. I had originally thought of doing the subjects by organ system wise and I think I am going to go back to that mode. I had switched plans when I joined this forum because I was afraid of micro and biochem and though these dry subjects I would only do if I had company. Atleast I am half way through biochem and micro and could try to finish it with the organ systems whenever I have free time.

THe good news is - I started with Respiratory system and finished gross in Hi Yield and side by side reading Hi Yield by Mehta to guide me through the organ systems. I have already fallen in love with this book. Anybody else has used this.....any comments?

Tonight and tomorrow I plan to finish physio and path in Resp system and will do Pharm on Sunday. Everyweek I designed it to be for one system. I guess there is no more time to be lost ......this is my last chance. I studied upto 12.30 last night and woke up at 6 a.m and studied for an hour this morning which made be scrape through school campus to drop off my son on time. But I think I can squeeze hours here and there during my experiments and stick to my time table. I plan to do questions at the end of every system to see how well I have read. I have decided that Goljan speaks to me while I am on the bus to and fro....and walk to house. Does this plan sound good to you guys.......2nd read I will include first aid.

To Zenith...I know that this USMLE is a tough route for me in life right now, but like you said God has put this desire in me and I know that is His plan for me. In Him I am going to trust and with his help I shall be able to crash this exam which has eluded me for nearly 6 years.

Unique - I read the dr. mums journal - I felt I had more time than her but just less determination. Thanks for your support - I promise to work hard........otherwise I would not be justified to be in this group, right?

Mytime......all I can say about you is that you are really a swweeeeeeeeeett and determined person. I feel like I have a sister to push and shove me. A big thank you to you from the bottom of my heart.

To all other lovely people in the forum...........take care and good luck with studying. Make the most of the weekend! ( Look who is talking .......but I am the "NEW" TARGET!!

Hi Folks

Late Reply for target but I would suggest that Don't give up...there is nothing in a world which gives you pleasure than being a doc. Its little hard work which you may forget after sometime when you'll be busy seeing patients in your office. So hit it!!! We all are struggling for it with our own reasons. Some are moms and some are dads, some are young and some not so young, some are working and some not and some are sick and some are not but they all have one thing in common..to achieve what we dreamt of when we were school kids...and now grown up adults with the same dream yet to be fullfilled...and now to live up to the expectations of our loved ones. Like unique said you want to thats why you are here...I think i suggested you or seems to make a schedule and try your best to stick to it. Best would be to have a date in your mind when you want to attempt this exam and make it in a reverse direction..starting from your day of exam and going till today and make it achievable and doable, flexible. Then you move on you will find yourself in a better situation one month from now. Your USMLE friends are here to guide you and take your guidance too.

Zenith: I did watch his videos though they are entirely different from the text in KLN but it does give you some concept. Its not advisable to do again. I didn't do his Micro section coz its all cramming.

Well guys, I am at Patho doing initial few chapters and listening to audio too.

Hope to find more posts from you guys!!!!

Keep motivated and motivating...nodnodnod

For zenith : I watched the immuno video. As oldkid said, it helps in getting the basic concepts and it is better than his micro lectures.

Rest of the family, I am in a rush . Will talk to you later.

Happy studying and Good luck.smiling face

Dear friends,
Good to be back. Finally i am done with physio. Next starting Anatomy.
I am going to read kpl note with BRS.
Oldkid... what do you suggest for neuroanatomy? Is HY notes enough? I am poor in this area and may need some in depth reading.
Mytime.. It is very kind of you to give encouraging words to all of us Thank you very much and we need that kind of talks now and then to keep our morale at a steady level.

Target... Your plan sounds ok. Do not let temporary setbacks to slow your long term goals USMLE.

Zenith..I too watched the immun/micro video. Yes, in my opinion the immuno part is more useful than micro. I have a feeling that listening to these tapes does help to retain some of the otherwise uninteresting facts in our brain.
The rest of the lovely guys in the family- You are doing a great job and Keep it up.
May God blessyou. Love

Hi Friends

Welcome to sharmaa 21. I am with Patho and enjoying it so far. Initial few chapters are boring but they have lot of info.

Proctalgia: Well if you want to do indepth then you can refer to Snell's Neuroanatomy but that will take bulk of your time. Other option would be to do BRS. I saw that book long time ago I think it was ok. HY is basically cramming but its also a good book. You can read HY only and supplement it with good diagrams from Snell's if you want to save time and understand facts.

I am delighted to have a day off today, though I didn't make most of it but I have another one tomorrow. I am happy.

GL and happy reading to all of you.

hi everybody,
I got back to my books after what seems like eternity. It is slow but I managed to finish 3 chapters in physiology respiratory system and Hi Yield Mehta entire respiratory system. I had two parties to attend but wouldnt blame them for my slow reading. It is just so slowwwwwwwwww. ............I just keep staring I think but my mind is wandering about laundry, what to keep for school on monday, what experiment to do in the lab, what is my boss thinking..............Help............how to focus.

But I am proud that I am doing atleast something.........better than the last 3 weeks.
Thanks to all of you guys! Mytime I am glad you headache is gone. Oldkid and proctalgia thank you for your suggestions, yes I am not going to let little setbacks take me away from my long term goals. Welcome sharma........happy studying rest of you.

hi guys,

i'm back after a crazy weekend - lots of social commitments!
oldkid, unique and proctalgia - thanks for answering my question.
rashmi - i hope your hubby's exam went well.
target - u're in full-swing girl - great going! with time, it'll become easier to focus as long as u maintain consistency (look who's talking!!)
mytime- i finally went to the acupuncturist - it really helped esp that same day, but the pain was back the following day. in any case, i was told not to expect any alleviation of symptoms after my first visit. i have to go thru' one cycle of treatment, which is 10 sittings and then we'll decide further. lets see how it goes - if it helps me, may be u could try it too......

immunology is going slow for me, coz i took a break again during the weekend - gosh, i don't know how to avoid these breaks - i guess i have to become a recluse, if i really want to get done with this exam........

right now - feeling sad and lonely coz hubby is traveling again (for work).

okay guys - i have a question for the gang - over the weekend, i happened to go thru' some random questions in genetics, just to see if i could answer them - could do most of the questions, except the one i'm attaching - please have a look and give the answer with an explanation! thanks for your time.

choices for the answer are:

A. 100
B. 50
C. 33
D. 25
E. 0

  #596

Hey zenith , I did immunology and microbiology after doing genetics . I guess they have erased genetics from my mind rolling eyesshaking head I am really scared to try the question.sticking out tongue but I should give it a try . I should not feel ashamed of making mistakes. After all I am in my own familysmiling face I guess the answer is E. I have ( may be a silly )explaination in my mind but please first let me know if I am right or wrong raised eyebrow

Hi guys,
I read the question but am allergic to such genetic trees......so I 'll skip but look forward to the answer and explanation. THank you for all the kind words of encouragement ........I hope to study harder .....an think less of what my boss is thinking. Okay.......one question for all of you........actually some
1) Is high yield gross enough for gross
2) What is a good source to do questions organ system wise. For those of you doing questions...which source are you using.
3) I think it is time for a Mid- September update.........I dont have any except what I did this weekend. So someone start and I will post last so that I will have something to report for this month ( mid -aug to mid-sept).

Thanks.

unique - wonderful!! that is the correct answer - please do explain how u figured that out. II-4, III-3 and III-4 - all r normal and II-5 is a carrier. since all 3 males are normal, which is the normal allele - the top one or the bottom one?

target - to answer your Qs- 1) don't know, coz haven't covered that yet.
2) again, don't know, since i'm doing subject wise.

  #599

ZENITH read that pat of genetics again...u sud get it right.raised eyebrowLooks like UNIQUE! did good while studying same.Well..i like to try even if i don't know. sooooowinkconfused
Target HY is good so u can do it......System -wise qs i think u can get on bSS.
Lets wait another week before we update.....so that we all get some more done. How doe sthat sound?U'll get to have finished some stuff too...ok?bye now....

  #600

grin I am glad my head is not completely empty grinsticking out tongue

Zenith , this is x linked inheritence. III3 inherited one x choromosome(bottom) from the mom and III4 inherited the other one (top) .Both these males are normal , it means both x chromosomes in the mom (II5) are normal. So II5 is homozygous normal and so is her daughter (III2) because she got one x from her dad and one(does not matter which one because both are normal) from the mom. In this pedegree grandma (II1) is carrier.

I hope I could explain to some extent.

Target, unfortunately I cannot answer any of your questions but I am doing only end of the chapter Qs for the time being and plan to do Kaplan Qbook with my second read.

Bye for now. Got to go , say my prayers and then pick the kids from schools. Have a good one .
