hey all..
firstly let me just say......its awesome the way we seem to have taken to this.... rock on !!!!!!!
seconly...im confused....according to me...its only been 24 hs...i last posted yesteday morning...and now im posting today.... but i guess since we r in diff time zones.... oh well...
progress report: 2 chap yesterday...i'll inshallah do the other 2 today..gosh...it seems so new ...like i as doin it for the fist time....not sure if im retaining anything yet...but im trying to unederstand ...
all the high school chem seems to have flown rite outtq my head...
will report bac soon hopefully with the other two ch finished...

Hi everyone
I am no authority on how to read best bec i sterted reading this usmle stuff after a long gap from my undergrad (i graduated in 2000) but from what i have gathered frm experiencesof great scorers in this forum is that Kaplan is the best (lot of peple on the forum advise about certain text books also...i have personally decided to not use kaplan patho book and have decided to go for goljan rapid review instead). So for my first brush up I had joined Kaplan 30 visit course and i made notes in my notebook, basically anything extra that the lect uttered i tried to copy in my own handwriting.It might seem frustrating sometimes but it helps a lot in terms of getting clarity about the topic. I did not venture with the FIrst Aid in my first read ....i infact do not know for sure if it is a good idea to do it alongwith first or 2nd read....there were students in my class (kaplan) who were doing it along the first time round itself but since i was pressed for time I opted out of it.
Now when i start to read again honestly speaking ido not seem to have retained much..infact hardly anything but it is atleast a baby step forward so i am not al that disheartened also.
i am on the west coast , it is 14th morning9am , i did not finifh my stuff bec had to look after certain pending things but will finish this much by tonight 10pm

Do you know what edition is the Kaplan lecture video that you attended.
Which is the latest edition of Kaplan Notes ? GUys I am trying to buy and I need to know which is the latest.
I am not done yet - hopefully today.

my kaplan center revised certain subject lectures in 2006 . i do not know what all subjects were revised specifically but i think it was some portion of anatomy and certain chapters of biochem, it could be some more portions of other subjects too but by the time i joined in feb they had stocked the new stuff.So i cant be sure of the intricacies. Also i received 2006-2007 edition of notes for biochem-genetics, anat,, pharmac , pathoand micro- immuno
and behv sc , physio and qbook is 2004 i guess

someone is trying to give away Step-I books for free. even though that is 2000 edition, i doubt if it really makes a difference. as long as your concepts are clear, it wouldn't hurt to have an older edition. if u want only the latest edition of books and DVD's - try ebay. you could also try to sell your kaplan home kit on ebay so u can recover the money you spent.
i must say i really appreciate your spirit - i mean, working full-time and being a single mom and trying to study for MLE - hats off to you - people like you are a real inspiration to the rest of us.
i'm an IMG trying for Dec'06. i work full-time and thought my life was tough until i started reading about people on this forum - i mean, its been a struggle trying to study for this exam while working full-time, but then, there are so many out there who are doing the same thing. if they can do it, why can't i????
even though i came across this thread pretty late (today morning), i would like to join you guys in starting Biochem - this is my first reading and i'm reading from Kaplan LN - I have the DVD's as well. by the way, i'm on east coast of the US.
lets keep each other encouraged and motivated on this difficult but rewarding path..........hopefully, some day, we'll all look back with a sense of accomplishment at having achieved a glorious 99........

Hi everyone,
I am an IMG who passed out in 2001. Am thinking of giving Step 1 in October. Just strating out. Many of you guys like target, dark gable are an inspiration. I would like to pitch in with you guys. guess we will have to help each other, motivate each other, sometimes by words and sometimes by example. if others who have done it can do it, so can we. lets get going. i am in new jersey and follow the est. its almost 2:45 in the afternoon right now and i'm going to start with Biochem like rest of the group. i hope i will be able to finish chapt 1,2 and 3 by tonight. i'll post before sleeping tonight.

its great to see ,that group is expanding day by day .this is great ,cz as the more ppl the more we r gonna get motivated.
its really nice to see such a warm response towards this plan.
as shrunt and zenith said ,this way we will motivate each other ,and some days whn we r down ,looking at the rest of the group will help us cheer up.

Hi guys,
I just logged in the morning and we were on page 2 of the thread and by the time I am getting off from work I am surprised to see there are lot of newcomers! Welcome ...Now I am even more confident we are going to make it with a bunch of helpful guys.
Ok here is the deal gusy - i checked out ebay - a guy is willing to sell his 2006-2007 notes and video and cds for $450 bucks
Another nice guy is willing to send me his lecture notes 2004 on soft copy and dvd videos and with a couple of extra stuff fir $250 bucks
I have emailed the guy that zenith was kind enough to direct.
Gosh guys ! I must tell you I look forward to getting home from work so I can get started to work on our target. It is slow but it is just the beginning. SO I am a little easy on myself. So seems you are not the only one behind. Cheers!

its never too late 4 anything right.so beter be late than never,
we were suppose to do 4 chapters maximum,and minimum three,but i guess like me ,others have done (some of them offcourse) only 2 chapters ofr two an a half.

u kow guys i got bored and i thought wud give myself a break ,but then thought lemme see whats on the forum ,and canu believe it ,now i dunt feel like wasting that time ,anymore ,i think ill go back to study.
i just started studying ,but i tak etoo many breaks ,. i ll increase my stamina ,and INSHA ALLAH at the end of biochem ,my oncertartion span wud increase.
hmm so im abt to finish chapter 3 ,but man what abt 4th chpter .
i guess we shd include that in our second target.

its great that u feel like studying when u get home, thats the spirit .keep the good work up .
cool u found suumthing ,but i think u can even get something for more cheaper ,try and INSHA ALLAH ull get them soon.
ask that guy ,cz i dunt think there is much of a difference in thses volumes really .
i have seen 2003 and 2004 and 2005 ,no difference.

its 10 m now here, and finally did the lectures for chpter 3.

zenith u can do it ,its just the first reading ,dunt try to memorize it ,just go thru it ,and undertstand .
i think that biochem teacher is cool ,he is sooo good in explaining ,but he is sooo soft spoken if i hear him too much i feel like sleeping heheh
anyways ,try ur best guys,we can do it.

zenith u ll catch up dunt worry ,none of us have gone too far.
i have job tomorrow so have to sleep early.

hey all... glad to see the expansion....welcome... ok..so we r including ch 4 in the second set of targets.... but i also think we need to start piking up our paces....like ... we have to really really try and finish four more ch in the next 48 hrs....we each start and finish according to our own schedules...but b honest ...if th time is up and target not achieved..admit it...coz that is gonna go a long way in keeping us grounded... im having guest over today.so i dont know how much i can cover... but im not sleeping until i atleast fiish ch 4.... just a little wisdom.....

how do u guys mange to read so quickly? are u all studying full-time? since i work full-time, i don't get as much time to read as i'd like to, but i'm going to speed up now.
seems: thank u for the reassurance. my problem is that it takes me very long to listen to the lectures - i try to jot down every single thing the lecturer says - he's very good, but like u said - very soft spoken and kind of puts u to sleep.
i finished only 1st chapter yesterday - i'm at work right now - its 9:30 am here - i can't wait to get back home (which won't be until 5:00 pm) and attack my books and catch up with the rest of the gang!

hi all...hope every1 is studyin with gusto...or atleast trying....
its evening now...the guest just departed...im gonna buckle down for a crash down of ch 4 and hopefully five....
i have an imp ques:..is it gonna b ok if i skip the lectures....(audios)....they eat up half my time... and when im done...im usually feeeling drained... and takes me some time to get bac to the books....i tried doin em together...but still...it takes time... and i cant do them when im at work...
plzz any suggestions would b appreciated....

i guess what is important is that we stick to the deadlines rather than whether we do it from notes alone or with videos or without videos. everyone has individual preferences and what works for one person may not work for the other. so i guess as long as you are keeping the schedule you are doing great. and from what i can see, you are doing a great job. i'll try to catch up with you today.
