Hi
Well last two days were very hectic. Hardly got time to study because of night call. Slept the whole day and just finished biochemistry. My opinion last 6 chapters were very tough and I wonder how much high yield are they. Well next time in second revision I intend to start them first followed by the first section and then the middle stuff of metabolism.
Inshallah I'll start off from Micro tomorrow and I'll be doing Kaplan only.
I wonder about snalini the one who started this forum is where is she and how did her exam go?

Hi guys,
This is target back to hometown. After unpacking couple of boxes and getting used to my new apartment with no internet connection yet - will be getting only after a week - now I am in the lab on Sunday evening checking my cells and thought I would drop in a few lines as I have access here. Gosh I feel I have wasted so much time even with a fantastic support group like you all.
Ok - looks like everybody is starting with Micro atleast oldkidonthe block (have you finshed immuno already?) and unique . Guess I am the slowest coach of all and feel guilty about the trip to Tucson. Anyway I am planning to pick up speed and give it my best shot. I REALIZE I DO NOT HAVE ANY MORE TIME TO LOSE AND THIS IS MY LAST CHANCE AT USMLE STEP 1.
So you guys are reading MRS and KAplan ! Shrunt and others who have finished any comments on both the books. It is hard enough to keep up with one. Did you all go through the video for Micro - how is it. ALso about immuno is the lecturer good ? Hope someone can given their opinion on all my questions above.
YES........here starts target again with her last fight with step 1 USMLE. Unique seems DarkGable and all the rest and the new comer mytime - hang in there - we will do it !
Like shrunt said we can give excuses but if we really look inside us we know we can get a lot done in the time we got at hand. It is not how much time - but the quality prep time with utmost concentration and productivity that matters ........I am going to count on that from now on. YES GUYS ..........we can do it all........if we have the heart to do it!

Congradulation Unique 1. you have done well.
Others too seems to be doing well. I will be finishing micro to night.
I will stick to Kaplan micro. MRS,as unique 1 said has some good reveiws. I guess what ever the source it is good to stick to one book.
My next target is to do the micro, starting from monday.

Hi Welcome back target
Well I am going to start Micro from KLN today. No, I don't intend to read two books coz I think I am not that good to read from many sources.  I have some rememberance of Jawetz though I studied that book really well but like 10 years ago. I glanced through the pages of KLN and found it to be ok, at least for me.
Infact I have strong urge to do Anatomy from KLN my future subject to come, as I think it is very well described in KLN though people recommend HY. I did HY long time but I think its not oriented to exam and it gives you lots of info in few pages and I remember being uncomfortable with it last time.
I was reading the post of a courageous lady her nick is ujaala. She did the whole stuff from KLN except Patho from BRS and few lectures from Goljan. She scored 99 while she was pregnant!! I think we all should be making her our role-model for this exam.

Thanx proctalgia and congrats to you too for finishing micro. . What is your next subject? I think you typed micro for your next subject by mistake......... It's ok ....... I can understand how these bugs can be on your nerves
Nice to hear form you target and am so glad to see your spirit keep it up and keep encouraging us all . You are very right that actually we can do much more than we are doing now . I hope we will pick up speed .

I know it is hard to read from two sources at a time but I haveto do it due to my poor knowledge of micro Yesterday I started Kaplan and felt that it is more like memorization which my degenerating nerves are not capable of  so decided to go for a simpler source in the hope that it will make kaplan easier for me After my first read I will stick to only kaplan of course .
Seems , I can see you on line . What are you upto???
My today's progress is not worth reporting but at least did something. Was able to do only first chapter in kaplan and one chapter from mrs. Hope a better progress tomorrow

hey friends
i m back frm a busy week .was busy in setting up our new apartment. its done now ALHUMDULLILAH. me andmy hubby didi a good job . hehehehhe
nowi got a strict warnning frm my brothr and hubby , now no excuse 4 me not to study.
i m goone start immuno or micro, i dunt know. the confusion is bcz i thought i ll do micro 1st cz its easier than immuno ,but when i opened the book ,i realised that i dunt know anything in there,and i need a big book, cz i dunt understand ,i mean its too brief. what do i do . i left all my big books back home.i dunt even have mmr, i lost it during the shifting.
anyways i ll do sumthing ,will check online or get the bbok.
how r u all . i have been reading ur posts, every now and then ,but had nothing to report, actually was very busy.
To unique: how did u see me online , guess u know me heheheh.
its good that every one is back and getting backto study .

Looks like all u guys are so set and did a lot this weekend.My son's fallin ill and i had an arguement with hubs which happens rarely {we r ok now}...so u know how much i accomplished?...zilch!
Sorry abt that guys but today i'm not going to let anything stop me.

Hi Guys!!!
Its indeed nice to be here. I am really very very lucky to be a part of this forum and would like to thankyou for your help regarding my problem. I would specially like to thank unique and proctalgia for their help. Yes, indeed I was successful to get those pages through the links as unique told. I am relieved. It was bit complicated to get them but in the end I was able to dl them and print them. Thankyou again guys.
Well, today's day was a waste I didn't study much partly coz I slept late the night b4, got depressed on finding missing pages and then later having a heavy rain here which rather I enjoyed with pakoras and khichri. I was able to do 2 chaps of immuno which I started thinking that micro may be delayed till I get those pages so I started off with it. Now that I have got them I may start both. Immuno was my favourite subject alongwith pharma last time and I felt very confident but now I see that science has advanced and so many new things are mentioned in the text.
One question do you guys think is it worth watching videos of Micro coz I think may be in immuno you need to listen somewhat but micro is memorization so why waste time on videos what do you think?
Tomorrow I have work so I plan to make the most of the morning till I leave for work in the evening.

Good morning guys , could not post my progress last night because I was so sleepy that after finishing studies just went to bed .
So here is my yesterday's report : 20 pages from medically imp. bacteria in kaplan and corresponding topics from mrs .
I do not like kaplan notes or lectures so far. It is rote memorization .I want to read kaplan as it is exam oriented and helps to know the high yields .Today I will check FA and will see should I stick to kaplan for my 2nd read or mrs and FA is a better combo. 
Oldkidontheblock , I am glad that your problem is solved. BTW want to let you know that you are doing a great job regarding your studies . I understand how hard it is to study along with a job. Keep up the good work .

phew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the last couple of days have been crazy - a very dear friend of mine who was expecting, had a baby girl this saturday (the cutest kid i've seen) - she had a C-section, so basically she needs lots of help right now and i've been at her side since then - gosh, its high time i stopped being a good samaritan and started concentrating on my books - i'm fed up of everything - its so hectic at work, not getting much done in terms of studying either - i wish i could isolate myself from everything and just drown myself in my books. its sooooooooooooo frustrating. and to top it all, we've been experiencing weird things in our house these days - yesterday i soaked some almonds and raisins in water and this morning, all the almonds were gone and the raisins were untouched. the other day, a box of candies went missing - gosh, i'm so petrified - i guess there's a rat/raccoon somewhere, but does a rat eat almonds or candies?????????? it might amuse some, but trust me, i'm scared to death.
anyways, howz everyone doing? good to see unique back in the swing of things. mytime: hope ur son is feeling better. oldkid: u're doing good man.
i'm so depressed right now - will try to get back to books today............

Pleased to be back with you. Mytime I hope your son is now ok.I know how hard it is to concentrate on studies when your kids are ill. Zenith, I am sorry you have a rough time at home. and hope you will overcome every thing soon.
I have actually finished reading immuno and now i have started studying bacteriology section. This might take more time for me because I plan to read relevant antibiotic pharmacology chapters as well. As oldkid said micro lectures are not very helpful but good to listen while driving so you will become familiar with words. I just do that

OK guys , here I am reporting my today's progress.
Strepto cocci , Clostridium , Bacillus ,Corynibacterium and Listeria. So done with gram +ves and InshaAllah tomorrow will start gram -ves.
Zenith, I have been thinking about what could it be ???? What's going on in your house?? Even if rats/ raccoons eat candy or almonds but I don't think they can pick almonds out of water.........
I hope this mystery is solved soon and you stay in peace .

Hey guys i'm sorry to say that my drudging along has been just that.I'm at heart now.....
physio.i spend so much time with the questions at the back.
My son is ok..thank you ...he..got this miserable cough from school which keeps us all up at night...i'm still a little drowsy....
Micro lecture swhen i did it was not helpful either...like oldkid says we just have to mug it all up.immuno is good though..i'm remembering from the past.
Seems..seems that u are all geared up now..where is ur new apt.Hope u like it.
Proctallgia its good u listen to lectures in the car...i tired doing that but the cd wud not play...works only on computer...wonder y....i sud ask my hubby.
Oldkid and unique u both are doing so good....remind me to tell u guys a fun way of remebering the antibiotics....something me and a friend had deviced in school.its actually a drawing...i'll see if i can get it scanned.
Zenith ..i think its rats...call for the pesticide guys...they'll put out these stick things that will catch the rats and then will throw them...also ask the mantainence guys to look for the vent....mine was under the dishwasher.happy hunting...pal!Don't lose heart.

hi guys,
howz everyone doing? i feel a little better today - i was so overwhelmed yesterday - didn't do anything - went to the movies instead. anyway - today its back to lipid metabolism.
thanks mytime for your suggestions - i guess u r right - its probably some rodent, most likely a squirrel - i spoke to a couple of friends yesterday and they all said that squirrels love nuts, so as an experiment, my hubby left a couple of almonds on the kitchen counter-top and guess what - this morning they were gone! in fact, i've even figured out a little hole near the dishwater, from where this creature might be coming in. anyways, i have to get after these maintainance guys - they r sooooo slow! but at least i now know what the problem is.

This is target reporting back. Actually made no progress in Micro - took Kaplan - it is so mundane and just like you all say is actually just knowing it byheart. SO I search my unpacked boxed and found MRS and started to read that on Monday with great enthusiasm but fell asleep quickly as my eyes were hurting bad. Next day I had a opthal appointment and thanks to the long acting dilators everything was blurred till the end of the day. Anyway they diagnosed me to have latent hyperopia and said that I am getting old and that my eyes are not accomodating as they used to. Long story short I have my glasses on for the first time in life and the doctor warned me that it is going to blurry and not to curse her - I have to learn to relax my eyes. But I feel that my headaches are better - as I used to get headache after 30 min of reading.
I am glad to hear they were only squirrels! I am so disorganized even in reporting regularly that many of you have forgotten me, I guess. Well I am going to start MRS today. Does anyone have any comments on BRS (Board review series for Micro and Immuno). Keep me in your prayers.

Good morning guys,
After finishing my studies last night I went straight to bed. Was so tired that did not report my progress.
Yesterday's report :
Neisseria ,Moraxella and all the guys in Enterobacteriaceae
Have no target in mind for today as have to take care of many other jobs like kids appointments and their hair cuts plus two of them are down with sore throat and stuffy nose
Target , how can we forget you ? I hope you will get used to the glasses soon . BTW , I am sure you look cute in them Keep reporting . It is always nice to hear from you.
Proctalgia , please let me know how your combined micro and pharma goes . It is a good idea to study these two together. I paln to do the same in my 2nd read. Pharma is my most dreaded subject.
zenith , are the maintenance guys doing something about the squirrels ? How did your lipid metabolism go yesterday ? Please do let us know.
Mytime , then what did you decide?? physio or micro???
Dark gable , Oldkid and Seems where are you guys??? You are being missed here.

abt my studies
welll nothing to report . i was soo exuasted afetr moving ,that 2 day i just had my book on th etable and nothing would inside my head, ididnt get a word and micro seemd that toughest subject.then my freidn suggest that i shd relax and take abreak and thats what i did for2 days .
yesterday i sat down again and my cds wuldnt work ,i wanted them 4 micro and immuno ,and the whole day got wasted in that sometime it would paly and the other time it would stop. so then i decied that this shdnt be stopping me andi thought all the years in med school i didnt have any CDS and still i passed all my exams i didi it just by reading my books ,and i can undrstand stuff wzout th ecds ,and anyways ppl say that th electures 4 micro and immuno r not that great ,so i decied to red it frm the book. last night i read some pages frm MMRS and it was making sense, so i thought ill just read the book and untill i fix my cds ill go ahead only wz thse books.
so INSHA ALLAH today ill start fresh, wzout the CDs.
TARGET: we ll never 4get u, why do u thinkso. even if u report once in a week its fine ,we still remembr that u r target , who is really busy but still has th ecourage to study , u r an inspiration 4 us . all alone u take of sooooooooooooooo many things ,thats really amazing.
ZENITH:hope u r doing well. in th ebeging i got a llittle scared but then thought it must be some animal, thankGOD the mystry is solved. hope u get it fixed soon and hope u get back to studies.
