This would have been a pm to mytime but I understand her time is precious so I am posting it here to get her comments (not whip!) and may be it can be of benefit to people who feel the same way as I do.
Well, as I said before I started off with Gross anatomy and when I had done few chapters I had this feeling that if I am not able to retain this much text, what is the use of reading it then? I have read previous experiences of various successful candidates who said the same thing that reading the text over and over again is of no benefit. I made the same mistake 10 years ago.
Luckily my Medessentials has arrived alongwith FA 2007 and I am thinking to start off straight away from there rather than reading the text without any use. I have 3 months left and I want to use them wisely. I can make it an exam like approach, making it an active rather than a passive study.
Subjects in USMLE can be divided into 3 broad categories:
- CONCEPTUAL SUBJECTS______Physio, Patho
- MEMORIZABLE SUBJECTS_____Pharma, Micro, Anatomy
- COMBO OF ABOVE TWO______Beh. Sc, Biochem
I have read all of them once from KLN. Second time Physio, Beh. Sc from KLN and Patho from Goljan. Now my main book is going to be KME and FA. I have the following mcq pool with me Kaplan qbank, qbook, NBME, UW, BSS, Kaplan simulated, NMS CD and UCVs.
For Category 1, I cannot compromise on Patho so Goljan will remain utmost priority so I will try to revise it once or twice more. Rest of the stuff can be done quite conveniently from KME and FA. Though the book looks very simple but I can assure you doing that book is not an easy task specially if your exam counts on it solely or at least the bulk of it. Physio can also be done from it but KLN second time is advisable. (In my second read I have made some notes and looking at graphs in the book can help to go through the text rather quickly)
Category 2 & 3: Needs KME and KME only which ofcourse can be compared with the original text in KLN. I checked Micro and its exactly what KLN has so you can compare the rest and add according to your wish. But what I feel to mention at this point that doing mcqs will make you understand what is asked and how is asked on the boards rather than just reading the text. This strategy I used to pass the PLAB and I did it.
Those of us who have done KLN at least once can think about it. I have not yet decided how exactly I am going to do it coz it needs discussion with the dentist but doing mcqs for all of them and learning from the mistakes is the correct path.
Timing is not a question now as most of the mcq pool is quite important to understand. I am sure when we sit in front of the computer our adrenaline is pumped enough to keep us at the end of the chair. So, I would suggest not to waste mcqs by timing now but to learn from their expalainations. NBME can be used as a timing and assesing tool as there are no answers there.
Finally before I forget, the importance of Goljan High Yield 100 pages should not be forgotten too. I am open to your responses, criticism and suggestions. i apologize for taking your this much time but I hope it will benefit us. I have yet to make a major change in my study schedule.

interesting oldkid.... i like wat u'v drawn up....... im kinda in a fix myself... ...will def take into count wat ur doin and mix it up with my own specifications since i hav half the time u do...im trying to read some of kln again..spec since ther were some sub i didnt do well the first time...

oldkid: i think that seems like a good plan - u r right - for any standardized exam, one needs to do tons and tons of questions and of course, read the right stuff in the right way. good luck buddy. do keep us posted on your preparation strategy.

Here is an Article in New England Journal of Medicine. U wont believe how they so easily dream up a question from this if u have ur concpets working then u guys will be able to finish diagnosis before the Paper tells u.

hiii guys
hope evrey one is doing fine.
well a new week ,lets hope this one is more productive.
i started pathology today ,lets see how much i do ,and will report atth end of the day.
mean while i applied 4 2cs ,cz i heard the result takes longer to come ,so i applied in advance . when ever i get a date ,i want to take that.
step 1 is taking soo long ,so i thought ok, lemme atleast apply. i dunt hav eanyone to study with 4 2cs,yet.
