Captain Mytime, Unique, Jaide, Seems, Shwe, Focus, Keepgoing, NNL, Aim99, Target, SSS, Kamyabi, Zade, Novak, Oldkid, Indi and Proct, thank you, thank you all. You guys were a really, really important part of my preparation. You all know how lonely and how very frustrating it can be, preparing for this exam- but you all made me a part of your lives and I thank you for everything. I apologize for being missing in action the past few weeks- I felt really bad about my exam and I did not want to be giving my side of the whole experience without the results to put everything into perspective. I just got my results today and this is the time I also got back to the forum and read about Target and Z's posts. Chin up, guys! You've got a whole bunch of friends here cheering you on. And I cannot tell you about the times that a call from Mytime would push me on to do more. It is more than doable, just like the imaginary monster under your bed that's just that- imaginary. Shwe, will be back for the rundown on my prep. I know how doubly blessed I am to have come across this thread. Again, thank you guys.

Oldkid, check your PM, my friend! Slow but steady, you're going to do great, I promise. Indi, you're back, thank goodness! You bugging Mytime again? You are her little monkey, after all. You miss the forum? I think all the ladies in the thread are missing you too. NNL, is this your last stretch? I am sure you will go in with all your guns blazing. And I must say, you are definitely not new and neither are you lost. Mwah. Kick ass on that exam. I hear from Captain Mytime that someone just finished with her CS yesterday! SSS? I am sure you knocked 'em dead. God bless on your exam! I see all the grand dames of this thread having a lot of fun with the smileys- Mytime, Unique, Jaide, Shwe? Smiley central is what this thread is. I can never get the thingiemajigs to work. Happy studying, everyone!

Hi Shwe! TommyK is a USMLE adviser on www.valuemd.com, and his notes actually started out as posts on that forum and were compiled into "Tommy's High Yield Concepts." I tried it during my review but I couldn't go through everything because of lack of time, but its pretty comprehensive and a good alternative resource if you have the time. You can download it from www.valuemd.com- check out the USMLE Step 1 part and there is a sticky for the compilation of TommyK's post. Make sure you check out their sticky on his HY 2419, where he has something to say about why students don't do as well as they should and I found his post really inspiring. I hope you will too.

I tried to make the most of my review time as I got married last December 2006 and had a lot of things to deal with on top of my studying. I realize now we can never make things perfect for ourselves when we do our review, but we can make the most out what we have. Exam date: March 19, 2006 (originally was for March 12 but freaked out and rescheduled one more week when I couldn't finish the big KLNs. I had the KME though and knew that I had to go over it or I would regret it) Review period: October 2006 - March 18, 2006 (6 months), but I think I really did the serious studying during my last two months. (Don't we all?) Review materials: One run through of all Kaplan videos - most helpful for me were the BSc lectures by Dr. Daugherty and the Biochem and Pharma lectures by Dr Raymon. Absolutely excellent teachers, these two. Kaplan lecture notes, except Pathology- 2 readings each except for Biochem, where I did 3 readings, because I almost failed this subject back in medical school. The funny thing about this is I married someone who did his masteral degree in the subject and aced almost all of his courses in it. Go figure. Goljan lecture notes - General and Systemic Pathology. I did 1 reading for General Pathology and 3 readings for the Systemic part. Goljan audio - listened to everything at least 3 times. I made time to download the Pacemaker plugin for Winamp on my computer so I could listen to the audio speeded up (I could finish a 60 minute lecture in 30-40 minutes) and I think that really helped because I was thinking and processing faster because I was listening to the audio faster. And that kept me from being bored as I have really short attention span when it comes to reading. What I'd do was listen to Goljan whenever I would lose focus with what I was reading. I knew my limitations. Didn't force myself to read- only did so when I felt like it, but I made sure I was learning in some other way if I couldn't do my reading. See if this will work for you. MCQ Source: UW (subscribed)- all questions, timed, random mode always, range 50% - 70%, cumulative average 60% only. Made notes extensively but did not get to go through them again. I think the process of making the notes helped me a lot. Kaplan Qbank (downloaded, subject wise version, unfinished, 70% done) - did 50Q blocks range 50-70% Kaplan Qbook (select subjects only, ex. Pharma, BSc)- did not compute average Robbins (General Patho principles part)- did not compute average Last run through: Tried to go through the big Kaplan Lecture Notes in the last two weeks- crazy huh? I realized my mistake a week into the big books so I extended one more week, switched to KME instead and I think I made a good decision there. I think the important thing is to have that BIG OVERVIEW in your head right before you take that exam. And KME gave me that. I think that doing both KME and FA would be the best thing to do as both are organized similarly and if you can start them both early in your review, then going over them in the last stretch will be a breeze. Pick me uppers aka Godsent blessings: Dear hubby who gave me that UW subscription instead of the honeymoon he promised Mytime's whip - (she called up every now and then to check up on me) and gave me that fateful shove to go through Pharma one last time as that was one subject I had neglected. The study groups and the scheduled subjects/topics to be finished on the pain of whipping were really, really helpful in motivating me. Maybe we could have that back huh? This thread and all the wonderful people in it. You guys are wonderful. PM me if you guys need any materials or anything. I hope you don't mind if I pop up every now and then. Big, sloppy kisses and big hugs to everyone all around. Happy studying everyone!

Do not forget to have a romantic honeymoon once you are done with your step 2. You deserve it.
