in metabolic acidosis, if there is a increased anion gap, what is the "increased anion gap" suppose to mean. can someone plz give a brief explaination. thanks

without giving the formula : it has to do with unmeasured buffers or anions in the serum such as lactate, sulfate etc. normally its between 8 and 12 with a little variation in those numbers.
