WHO CAN EXPLAIN IT ?

THANKS

it is a PgE1 analog. it protects against NSAID induced ulcers. it stimulates the PgE2 and PgI2 receptors leading to synthesis of protective mucus and bicarbonate. it also inhibits gastric acid secretion by same mechanism. it acts via Gi receptor.

misoprostol is effective only in doses that decrease gastric acid secretion. (this is why it is not used routinely except in NSAID induced ulcers and in those at high risk for developing the ulcers) it is contraindicated in pregnancy cos it stimulates uterine contraction.
