...i dont get the question... isnt atp production an integral part of cell respiration...which continues all the time...??? :?

my idea behind saying G1 and G2 was that in these phases, the cell prepares itself to meet the demands of S and M phases respectively though I dont really think there will be a total shutdown of ATP production during those phases

probably because mitosis will require a lot more of ATP than DNA synthesis.
