i started my preparation for the step 1 exam in july i was not regular in my schedule, and i managed to sit for the exam on the 16th of february as usual, it was the kaplan's package that i was using i used both the lecture notes and the review package and i must confess the review package was alot better in contrary to what others may think it is time consuming, but you tend to retain the knowledge better the exam was nothing like the q-book or the usmle cd tries to portrait it was alot tougher and in order to finish in time someone has to reherse finishing the q-book's block in less than 40 minutes and the questions were really difficult once, i read that 30% of tthe exam is based on simple recall ofin formation, 30% on graphs, and 40% on making the right guess and this what differentiates the good from a bad candidate i think this is right there were plenty of questions that seem to never have an answer plus the exam pool is constantly changing there were plenty of MRIs and CTs in neurology a substantial portion of the questions was based on the metabolic diseases and genetics i was not quiet happy about the whole experience may be cause i was frustrated by the level of difficulty i encountered as a whole now i am collecting the resources for the step 2 ck best of wishes to anybody that decided to step up and sit for this exam

ing the review package consists of 2 volumes the first is the 'basic principal' book and the second is the systemic really dull and complex, but sufficient and adequate for someone like me, i did my basics a long time ago thanx guys

people one more thing the board review serious, in paricular: pathology, biochemistry and physiology are really great sometimes it is better than kaplan's and the pre-test series are nice for 'revision'. though the exam never looks like the questions in these series.
