I think it causes chronic renal failure thus leading to hypertension, hyperkalemia, acidosis, hypocalcemia, hyperparathyreoidism...

Kidneys are very important for blood pressure regulation because they decide how much Na and water will be reabsorbed and kept in organism, which determines blood pressure. When kidneys don't work, i.e. in renal failure (either acute or chronic) there is oliguria or even anuria = water and Na can't be excreted so blood volume increases so as the blood pressure.
