Hi guys I have a question regarding mandatory return to your home country after 7 years on J1 visa. I have an EU passport and basically I can cross any border within EU with only my national ID. Currently I am working as a medical officer in the United Kingdom, no visas, work permits, travel restrictions, etc. I can be in my home country tomorrow, sit there for a week or two and come back to UK as simple as that. EU border crossing with EU ID is as simple as going from one state to another state, barely any checkpoints or restrictions. I was wondering that if I accept the J1 visa, I can come back to EU and just like coming to USA you can switch states but you are still within one country, the same is here, you can switch member countries and logically you are still fulfilling the 2 years home country rule. When travel is so easy, how US immigration can keep track, where have you been every single day of your 2 years home country return period? Is there any logic behind my thinking?

the j visa means leaving the usa and staying out for at least 2 years...and by the way if you read the fine print, they do not garuntee to let you back after the 2 years are done... because the j visa is an exchange visitor visa, the thinking is that you have to leave after the exchange has lapsed...
