Choice A, globus pallidus, is a basal ganglia structure that contains GABA-ergic neurons. Their axons synapse on the subthalamic nucleus, not the putamen.

D It's striatum because axons of neurons in substantia nigra go to striatum.

Neurons from the Substantia nigra PARS COMPACTA go to the striatum. Substancia Nigra PARS RETICULATA go to the thalmus.

its striatum. striatum contains the receptor for dopamine and substantia nigra produces dopamine. Plus see the location just underneath third ventricle

The answer is S.Nigra. (p.compacta) ndSpider has explained it. The arrow poins to Head of caudate (part of corpus striatum) the ventricle adjacent is frontal horn of lateral ventricle. The caudate sits in the waist of the frontal horn.

A small correction The image is at the junction of frontal horn and body of lateral ventricle and the caudate is the junction between head and body -

dopamine is produced in the substantia nigra but dopamine receptors are present in striatum. so i think striatum is the answer.

hi docsrinu, Noted your PM. Question stem asks -which of the following is the SOURCE of innervation of this structure by "dopamine containing" axons? The structure is caudate nucleus and the SOURCE of dopaminergic innervation is from S.Nigra. Correct me if I am wrong.

yes striatum is caudate plus putamen it receives signals from substantia nigra and cortex and sends signals to globus pallidus and subthalamus from there signals are send to thalamus nuclei and then back to cortex.
