In most cases, you could get swollen Archille's tendons and NOT the end-stage of rupture !! (unless no medical intervention)

Dr. Archilles,

I expect you would answer "Reiter's Syndrome" But please see the answer below !

Actually the name of this disease is no longer Reiter's Syndrome.

Also The Academy of Medicine have agreed to drop most of the 's of ALL Syndrome.

Also the Academy of Medicine has changed the name of the disease to Reactive Arthritis.

Because Dr. Reiter is a German Nazi Doctor and the American wanted nothing to do with the German Nazi medicine so they did changed the name to reactive arthritis.

Just a piece of history in medicine !

Reiter's Syndrome is WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please read the answer below :

Despicable and venomous Dr. Hans Conrad Julius Reiter was one of the first physicians to swear an oath of allegiance to Adolph Hitler in 1932 and was one of the most prominent members of a the eugenics movement that advocated killing all people who had any physical or mental disability whatever. In 1937, as a result of his disgusting beliefs, he was appointed president of the Reich Health Office. He declared that it is medicine's responsibility to stop further transmission of inferior genes. Disgusting Dr. Reiter sanctioned medical experiments that killed thousands of unfortunate human beings at Buchenwald Concentration camp. He gave the orders to perform and he supervised many medical atrocities. One documented experiment was to infect 250 prisoners at Buchenwald with rickettsia and then kill them.

The Spondylitis Society that represents patients who have arthritis, recently voted to call Reiter's syndrome, reactive arthritis. Hopefully, the rest of the medical profession will call burning on urination, pain in the eyes and arthritis reactive arthritis and stop paying homage to the immoral killer, Dr. Hans Reiter, who lied when he took the Hippocratic Oath. After all a physician pledges that first, he will do no harm. The syndrome is called reactive arthritis. No self-respecting physician should ever use the name Reiter's syndrome again.

It was Dr. Reiter who actually might have persuaded Adolf Hilter to kill all the Jews, six millions and all the disabled, handicapped, mentally retarded and the gypies !

Dr. Reiter was a mass murderer in the human history which indirectly persuaded Adolf Hilter to kill more than 10 million people.

So Reiter's Sydrome is wrong ! the correct diagnosis is Reactive Arthritis

No self-respecting physician would ever used the term Reiter who killed more than 10 million people indirectly through his influence on Adolf Hilter

One of the greatest tributes a physician can receive is to have a medical condition named after him. For example, I had the pleasure to know Dr. Mike Leventhal and remember how all the residents in training with me treated him with the greatest reverence because he was the Leventhal of Stein-Leventhal syndrome, now called polycystic ovary syndrome. Everyone respects the men associated with Alzheimer's disease, Down's syndrome, Hodgkin's disease and Dupuytren's contracture. It is such a great honor that it should not be granted to any person who lies when he takes the Hippocratic oath in which he swears that he will not practice medicine in a way that will harm his fellow man.

In The Journal of Clinical Rheumatology, Drs. Dan Wallace and Mike Weisman of the University of California, Los Angeles, report that Reiter's syndrome was named after one of the most heinous, hateful and despicable physicians who ever lived. Not only did he perform horrendous experiments on humans, he also didn't even name the disease correctly and his report was not the first on that condition. All that this loathsome and disgusting physician did was report that in 1916, a German military officer had a sexual affair that was followed by terrible burning on urination, high fever, terrible pains in his joints and burning in his eyes. We now know that this condition can be cured by taking doxycycline or other antibioitcs for many months or even years. But odious, vile Dr. Reiter thought it was caused by a spirochete, similar to the one that causes syphilis. This theory was abandoned because no patients improved with the treatment for syphilis.

Disgusting indeed. How did the syndrome come to be named after him?

The term Reactive arthritis has been around for a while.

  #19

Last time I checked it was reiter's syndrome. If Bush changed it, it could have been to FREEDOM balanitis.

Sorry, I'm not from the US. I hope I didn't touch sensibilities. Harm was not intended.

I agree with Dr. Weisman.

I didn't read all the posts when I wrote my previous post (just above this one).

What I don't agree with is the name Reactive Arthritis. I guess it's the most practical way of naming the disease; but the truth is that this syndrome (constellation of symptoms) is very varied. It could be only a mild balanitis with tenosynovitis of the calcaneous (NO ARTHRITIS INVOLVED). When you put words into names tey must be true for ALL tha cases. Like Dengue Fever. All dengue fever cases PRESENT WITH FEVER. Otherwise, it's not Dengue!

That was a piece of my mind to help create MEMMORY!

I was wondering how 'reactive arthritis' can be a replacement for Reiter's syndrome, because Reiter's syndrome refers to the triad of reactive arthritis, urethritis and conjunctivitis.

  #23

It is a very long story and Dr. Reiter actually made the wrong diagnosis. I believe it was 1918 when Dr. Reiter actually saw a German Army officer came down with this syndrome that he thought it was caused by syphilis. He was wrong and actually there were many organisms to cause Reactive Arthritis.

I remembered going to medical school and my GI Professor was still using Reiter's Syndrome back in 1994 but the name change has been around for years.

It was quite fascinating to read about the history of medicine because I learnt so much about medicine from reading the past !

One of the most common diabetic drug, Meformin was actually around in 1950's but pulled from the market due to lactic acidosis. But some 30 years later, a newer form of Meformin came along and cured or controlled millions' glucose among diabetics.

How wonderful it is I enjoyed reading how medicine is evolved through history.

I would never how the background of Dr. Reiter until I read about the name change and did some research !

Thank you for sharing with me an interesting chapter in medicine during the German Nazi era!
