HI GUYS. I HAVE A DOUBT. DO WE WRITE DOWN OUR EXPERIENCES SUCH AS OBSERVERSHIPS, EXTERNSHIPS, RESEARCH EXPERIENCE IN THE COMMON APPLICATION FORM (CAF). In part 5 (experiences), we can write Work experiences, Research experiences, Volunteer experiences. Observerships an externships count as Volunteer experiences???? thank you in advance

I have seen ERAS website. Is it ok for us to see medical school transcript and medical evalutions and send by us or ask MEdical school to send it to ERAS? For letter of recommendation, we need to sign waiver (yes or no) and should we then give this filled form to the prospective letter writer to send it along with letter or ask the person to send the letter to the application in a sealed envelope and then attach the letter along with seal recommendation letter to ERAS? Would we ever see recommendation letter if you waive our right to see the letter. Once letter are at ERAS, Do we have a choice to choose which letters to which program. ERAS says only 4 letters does that include, Dean letter Chair of department ( medicine in my case) 2 more

Once letters are in ERAS, you can choose which ones to send to each program. I understand dean's letter is different. 4 letters of recommendation are of chairman and attendings only. If you waive your right to see the letter, you can't see it because it's supposed that Dr. X is going to send that letter in an envelope to ERAS and you don't have the right to check it out. Hope this helps.

1. get eras token from ecfmg oasis 2. log into aamc eras with token and register and complete profile and create ps 3. send lors, transcripts, deans letter to philly with the cover letter and ur token number 4. lock ur profile and select auto transmission of scores 5. select ur programs 6. assign lor to programs 7. pay eras 8. wait for sept 1 9. pray and check ur inbox for invites (or rejects) dont waive right to lor unless the attendin shows u a copy under the table.. ppl have had disasterous consequences due to blind faith.. u never see the letter again unless the attendin shows it to u in good faith.. or maybe the pc at some program is kind enuf to share it with u.. u ask him to write the letter and give him the eras cover letter and ask him to mail it.. i know ppl have had to wait till nov for this to happen. face it attendings are busy ppl.. the above is all i remem from my last run on the boulevard of broken dreams.. but i do have juvenile alzeihmers - so pls do correct me if im wrong or have forgotten somethin.. apurva

thanks apurva for the step by step application details. I am still quite anxious and more or less overwhelmed by the whole process. it was so much easier in india where we just had to score well in the exam and did not have all this paperwork. well, no gains without pains i suppose. thanks bbb for that information on calling hospitals. when do you think is the best time to start calling considering we have to apply in september. another question for anybody who knows the answer(may be a bit silly): when you say that the programs download the applications, do they do it on their own computers or do they take paper printouts.

Gollum/Smeagal - Well, my gut instinct answer is that there is never a good time to call, but that's not the answer you all need. Call in late July/August as you start to determine where you will think about applying. When I talk about a program that downloads applications, it means that we electronically contact the ERAS server, the ERAS server determines what program we are from (it's magic, I swear) and sends the program all the pieces of files that complete and application. This is important, because I tell this every year: A program must accept all the files or applications or none of files. We cannot pick and choose!! Everything is accepted or the program coordinator sits and twiddles their thumbs. Most programs that I have talked with don't print the applications until the person has their interview scheduled. (Thank goodness, with 3900+ applications, I would be buried!!) Good luck

and about the CAF?? Where do we send that? Is it a seperate application form that we send to ERAS or individually to all the programs? Do we send our CV's to ERAS too? We have sent transcripts and copies of our diploma to ECFMG do we have to do that again through ERAS? and one last question, once you send your LOR's to ERAS how long would it take for them to download it?, say if I was to plan applying on Sept 15 when should I send my letters in? Thanks for replies in advance

thanks so much bbb. that clears my doubt very well. i was wondering what would happen if the program misses out on the extra line of my personal statement which has reached the second page. srbutros, i can answer your query. you don't have to send your CAF or CV to eras. you just have to type it on the space that they provide on eras. the programs, i guess, will download it directly from eras website. i don't think we need to send transcripts and diploma copies to eras, but please somebody else confirm that. and regarding how long it takes for eras to download documents, i think its 10 days, again, somebody please confirm this, i am not entirely sure.

query regarding eras CV: while writing the CV what format do we use? do we write it as, " worked in dept of medicine for 2 years. treated patients, and blah blah" OR " I worked in the dept of medicine for 2 years. I treated patients, and blah blah" i mean to ask if we need to write as "did this, did that" or " I did this and I did that"

All the information is available on line: http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/usemyeras/start... http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/start.htm http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/feesbilling/sta... http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/resources/start... http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/timeline/start.... Gollum - when you put in your application, ERAS takes that information and reformats it into a CV for you. No need to have a different CV

You can put it in either place - I've seen it all over the CAF. As long as it's there, it doesn't matter where. Put it where it makes the most sense.

i trully believe that if you apply to enough programs and get some interviews; as long you impress them with who you are-you are bound to get in... good luck...

What all criteria are ya guys looking at in shortlisting programs to apply to? VISA? Size? Past Rep for taking in IMGs? Geography? Quality? (Ah, how circumstances change preferences!) Personal Issues ?(Like ya match its "requirements" or not) (I think I am repeating myself..have posted something similar somewhere...but just putting it up all the same!)
