Hey guys...sorry for the double post but am hoping for some good advice from ya'all:

I have the option to do a subspeciality rotation in Cardiology in the month of August. One of the attendings I talked to mentioned that this would a good addition to my CV.

To put things in perspective: Around the 1st week of August I would be done with Step 2 CK (already done with Step 1 and CS) and I have to start out with a research job in September so I was hoping to utilize the month of August for my Step 3 prep as well focus on sending out my application in time.

My 4 LORs are already accounted for so getting one out of this rotation is optional and I already have 3 months of observership experience at a nearby hospital.

so my dilema is do I go for this rotation (and spend my VERY limited and precious $$$ on travel and accomodation) or stay put and focus on studying for my Step 3 / sending out my application....

Is having your Step 3 scores in hand a good/equal substitute for missing out on a rotation like this...

...Any help would be very appreciated...thanks!

rotation, rotation, ROTATION!

if you need visa...remember you have to have step 3 by feb latest (correct me if inaccurate).

A rotation may impact your profile in getting interviews and having something to brag about when you attend them...step3 has its own advantages...but I guess not quite as much as a rotation might!

I will join u guys in August 2005. Hvae step 2 CS on 19th July. good luck to all for match 2007.

Btw, i just visited a few links for IMG friendly residencies, eventhough i realize that a few things might not be accurate, how come most of the programmes require score around 75 .... even in specialties like surgery, emergency medicine and anesthesia.

I have scores of 83, 89.. No USCE, working in UK, do you think, I have any chance in anesthesia or surgery?

  #186

check FMG America - Foreign Medical Graduate U.S. Hospital Residency Counseling - WWW.FMGAMERICA.COM go to free lists, when I checked with the pc, it was 100% accurat

  #187

yeap!! I checked that list too, is pretty accurate. The one on www.usmleweb.com ain't, the min score reported for some programs do not coincide with the ones of the program's webpage.

You can buy your token now, but the eras registration won't open until this saturday (july 1st)

so guys plz help me out.bbb?gollum?chemamr?or anyone plz.

Hi everyone,

I am just starting this process of looking up the requirements of the different programs. Require an H1. Aiming for I.Med. How can we IMG's get USCE ? The best we can do is observership. Whats ur opinion?

In the EARS website, it says that "Keep in mind that being registered with ERAS does not mean
that you are registered with the NRMP. You will need to register for your Match NRMP separately." Dose this mean that, besides EARS, I have to register in NRMP also? Thanks!

Yes, it means that being registered with ERAS does not mean that you are registered with the NRMP. You will need to register for your Match NRMP separately.

International Medical Graduates
If you have decided to submit a Medical School Transcript, you should contact your medical school of graduation as soon as possible to obtain the transcript. Once you get the transcript, send it to the ECFMG accompanied by a completed ERAS Document Submission Form.

ERAS Document Submission Form with your documents. Send the documents and completed ERAS Document Submission Form to the appropriate address.

Additionally, your documents must meet our size and format requirements. The largest size paper that can be scanned is approximately 8.5 in x 14 in (21 cm x 35 cm). Please do not send oversized documents! Documents should not be on "security paper" with a busy background. Busy backgrounds make the scanned image illegible. If necessary, copy the document onto plain paper.

For a basic, instructional guide designed to assist the IMG applicant with the document submission process, see A Document Submission Guide for the IMG – ERAS Applicant.
Back to Top Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
The MSPE evaluates a medical student's performance. See A Guide to the Preparation of the Medical Student Performance Evaluation to learn more about this document. To submit a MSPE, you should contact your medical school of graduation as soon as possible to obtain the letter. Once you secure the MSPE, send us the original accompanied by a completed ERAS Document Submission Form. Make a copy for your personal records. When we receive your MSPE, we scan it and transmit it to the ERAS PostOffice, whether you have applied to a program or not. All MSPEs are held at the ERAS PostOffice until November 1st, at which time they are released to programs to which you applied.

If you are unable to provide an original MSPE, you must indicate this on Page 12 of your Common Application Form (CAF) - MyERAS Application. A neutral filler letter will be provided in place of a MSPE. The filler letter will be provided to all of the programs to which you apply, and will state, "This is in lieu of a MSPE." This will ensure that your application will appear as complete, for those programs that require a MSPE before considering your application.
NOTE: The MSPE does not count as one of your Letters of Recommendation (LoRs) and does not need to be listed and assigned to your programs. This is done automatically when the MSPE is submitted. Back to Top Medical School Transcript
Medical school transcripts come in a variety of sizes and formats. They may also be known as mark sheets, time sheets, or hour sheets. Ideally, they will help the program directors to get an overview of the subjects you studied in medical school, how long you studied each subject, and how well you did on your exams.

To submit a copy of a medical school transcript, you should contact your medical school of graduation as soon as possible to obtain the transcript. Once you receive the transcript, send a copy to ECFMG accompanied by a completed ERAS Document Submission Form. While the medical school transcript is required for ECFMG Certification, you are still required to submit a copy to ERAS Support Services at ECFMG.

The transcripts should not be on "security paper" with a busy background. Busy backgrounds make the scanned image illegible. Ask your school to copy your transcript on plain paper.

If you are unable to provide a medical school transcript, then you must indicate this on Page 12 of your Common Application Form (CAF) - MyERAS Application. A neutral filler letter will be provided in place of a transcript. The filler letter will be provided to all of the programs to which you apply, and will state, "This is in lieu of a Medical School Transcript." This will ensure that your application will appear as complete, for those programs that require a medical school transcript before considering your application.
Back to Top Letters of Recommendation (LoRs)
Obtaining strong letters of recommendation is an essential part of your medical residency application. Your letters should give the residency program director a clear picture of your skills and clinical ability. It is recommended that your letters of recommendation be written by physicians familiar with you and your work. Previous applicants have found it helpful to provide a copy of their CV and personal statements to each of their letter writers to assist with this process. It is your responsibility to follow up with letter writers to ensure that original LoRs have been sent to ERAS Support Services at ECFMG in time to meet program deadlines. Only four (4) letters can be assigned/sent to any individual program in MyERAS. Please contact each program for their LoR requirements.

Whether to waive your right to see your LoRs is a matter strictly between you and the letter writer. If you already have some LoRs, you obviously did not waive your right to see them. In that case, submit the original and retain a photocopy for your records. However, if you do waive your right to see your LoRs, the letter must be accompanied by the AAMC’s LOR Cover Sheet / Instructions for International Medical Graduates. Also provide the ERAS Document Submission Form to your letter writer so that he/she can send the LoR directly to us in a sealed envelope from the institution.
Back to Top ECFMG Status Report
We will transmit your ECFMG Status Report automatically. You do not need to request this, and the cost is included with your ERAS Token fee. The ECFMG Status Report contains the month and year that you passed examinations for ECFMG Certification. It does not include your USMLE scores, which can be reported only as part of an official USMLE Transcript. The only scores listed on the ECFMG Status Report are those for the one-day ECFMG Examination, FMGEMS, VQE, NBME Part exams, or FLEX, if you received your ECFMG Certificate based on any of these former medical science exams. If you passed the former ECFMG CSA, the ECFMG Status Report will list the month and year of your passing performance. The Status Report will not contain any failing scores or other non-passing attempts.

Specifically, it contains the following information:
  • USMLE/ECFMG Identification Number Applicant Name ECFMG-certified: (Yes or No) Certificate issue date CSA valid through date, if applicable Exams passed for ECFMG Certification Explanatory Notes
Back to Top USMLE Transcript
The USMLE transcript contains your entire USMLE history on Step 1, Step 2 CK, Step 2 CS and, if taken, Step 3. It includes all attempts: passed, failed, incomplete, etc. It is not transmitted automatically. You need to request its transmission, pay $50, and assign it to your programs. For complete information on what is included in the USMLE transcript, refer to Official USMLE Transcripts and Providing Scores to Third Parties in the USMLE Bulletin of Information, available on the USMLE website.

You can request a USMLE Transcript from the Documents tab of MyERAS.

Please read the directions carefully. You need to answer two questions. The first one asks you to release your USMLE transcript. The second question asks whether you want an updated USMLE transcript sent automatically, should information change. After reading the instructions carefully, choose either YES or NO. If you choose NO to the second question and decide not to have it retransmitted automatically, you need to retransmit it yourself at MyERAS after you have received your scores in the mail.
NOTE: USMLE scores may only be reported in an official USMLE transcript. ECFMG is not authorized to include USMLE scores in the ECFMG Status Report. The only method to transmit your USMLE scores is by requesting the USMLE transcript.
You will assign your USMLE transcript to your selected programs just as you assign your Personal Statement and Letters of Recommendation. When you assemble your first group of programs and click on "Apply to Selected Programs," the invoice page will show your Processing Fees due plus $50 for the USMLE transcript. Once you have completed payment, we can download your request and fulfill it, typically within 24 hours.
