hi, its encouraging to know so many ppl in the same boat already! Right now, i am going thro the application criteria of different hospitals. Its wierd that so many colleges ask for US clinical experience of 1 year for IMGs. Now, how can one possibly get that. I think all this hospital search work only gets me more nervous. I hope that all of us make it thro to resi this year! good luck guys, please keep posting, thnks, gollum(yes thats a character from lord of the rings chemamr)

yes, i really don't understand how they ask for 1 year of real USCE, that would be a residency and you are applying to get into that. It's not very logical to me.

1yr of usce means that if ur a prior pgy1 in a place like a small comm and u want to leave somehow or the other and are ready to repeat the intern year - then ur welcome also there are many imgs from carribean who have done all their rotations in usa and are imgs only in name due to the first 2yrs spent outside. yes but overall its like saying dogs and ordinary imgs arent allowed get ready for the highway to hell my wishes are with us apurva

nice to know so many people joining the group. Good luck to all those who have their exams coming up. doc_apurva, thanks for that info. I didn't know that. One thing I am learning is that we have to be ready for a lot of disappointments heading our way, but must keep positive and keep moving on. There is light at the end of the tunnel and we can support each other until we reach there!

this is cool, we are now a good group of IMGs trying to get a spot in USA. I like that. We have to support each other.

I just want to share something to all IMGs that I learned from well-established pediatrician in a reputable academic institute. He did his medical school in Nigeria and runs pediatric program at present. I went to talk to him for clinical research project and he started talking to me about my future plans and stuff. He told me outright that IMGs should not be afraid of matching to not so no known places. It happened to himself even 15-20 yrs back when competition was not that stiff. He told me IMGs should focus on fellowships at the best possible institutes. Its a good way to compensate for your not so known hospital residency. You cant argue with someone who himself has lived it. So all you guys, not be ashamed of your efforts and status, we all will work harder and bring the parity, progress and prosperity

I have been reading lots of threads around and I have seen lots of posts saying 'there are very few IMG's' or 'unfortunately there is a 50/50 rate'. What's wrong with these people? They are pointing to the issue like it is a great disadvantage. Some programs seem to see it as a matter of reputation. Some even interview all the FMGs on a seperate day so that the AMGs wont underrank the program. The way I see it, we are damn better then them. Starting off a new life in a totally different country is a huge accomplishment from the beginning. I am a little frustrated at the moment so I am a little emotional while writing this but the situation seems so unfare, it disturbs me... I have seen AMG residents in reputable institutions not even knowing why LP would be contraindicated in a patient with raised ICP... Anyways goodluck to everyone of you, especially to those stellar FMG applicants that score 20 points more on average compared to them.

hey pete, for the personal statement, best thing to do is to write one yourself as it is best if its personalized! i was wondering if to get it professionally done, but i dont think it will improve anything but grammar and of course its too expensive! i am currently researching on visa status of hospitals,i need h1 which is a major drawback i guess. but i don't want to spread any negativity to anyone, lets keep positive through the season, will save the tears for later, its too early to lose hope. may God sail us thro the winds n storms.
