you're more likely to hear someone order AP and lateral views of a chest x-ray. the actual dimensions I dont know and AP dimensions are not a likely q on the usmle. Its probaly good to know how the rib cage expands on inspiration and have a grasp of alveolar, intrapleural, transpulmonary, transthoracic, transrespiratory and atmospheric pressure. Also it helps knowing blood/gas transport and controls for respiration Also Haldane versing Bohr affects knowing V/Q abnormalities. a likely q is if someone inhales a peanut where does it go?? these qs here are only the tip of the iceberg.
