Hi Hamoda, Many factors come into play in preparing for step 2 .Here are few points which I think will help you clarify your concerns. Firstly,You need to know what your current knowledge level is. Taking a Kaplan Diagnostic (available free ) will give you a rough estimate. Then you need to know what score you are aiming for and make a good estimate of how many months and the number of hours u can put in for step 2 prep. Then, get hold of study materials. Most of us start of with Kaplan study material and try to fill in gaps with other sources. Finally ,make a plan(kaplan diagnostic will give you areas which you need to concentrate on most) and work on the plan. Periodically u could test urself with say initially Kaplan Q-book/Q-bank.Also keep reading this forum, I am sure as u go by u will get lots and lots of usefull advice. All the best.

am soooo grateful for ur precious advice kris ...thanks indeed ...i wanna tell u something ...i was preparing for plab in the past few months But anymore after what happened in uk ...its almost impossible to get into F1 jobs there ...so i seriously started planning for usmle ....the problem is all the guys i know here in my town didnt get good score in both steps ...the last one was yesterday when i heard that my friend has got 81 in step 2 ....its really frustrating news ....many of my friends told me that it needs at least 10 months for each one !!!!! and what am seeing here in this honored forum is an opposite of that ....i mean i hear from many doctors who have got those exams in less than 4 months for each !!! anyways thanks for ur advice ...as i mentioned before i know nothing about all this issue so i will be thankful indeed if u tell me what the kaplan dignostic is all about ..is it book or test must be taken online ?? or somthing like that ......and i hope u give me breif idea about what the best books to start preparation with hamoda

Hi hamoda, please visit www.kaptest.com and you can find more abt all that they have to offer. I'm not sure if an online version of Kaplan Diagnostic is available, but if a Kaplan centre is close by to your place, you could visit and ask for this. It 's basically a test (of 150 q) for you to answer in a time limit. This is specifically designed to get a measure of urself before u start with more serious prep. At the risk of sounding repititious( and a direct advertisee of Kaplan !!!) , I'd like to add u can base your study on Kaplan lecture notes.Of course it's always better to get opinion from different sources and see what is good for you.
