Hi guys !

I have 99/99 but step 1 is a second attempt, there are quite a few programs that have "no attempts" criterion and I wonder if in my case applying to those programs is total waste of money.. Will they shred my application as soon they find step1 results x2? or programs may still invite you to an interview if you miss one of their screening creterions but otherwise you are damn good candidate?? smiling face

i am in the same kind of case and a guru here told me to write my PS about it and try to explained why you failed and what you just did to finaly pass...

yes, but the question is, will PD even consider reading your PS and reviewing other credentials, when you fail to satisfy their initial screening (attempts)? Here comes another question, how strict are programs in sticking to so called IMG requirements? Can you bend thos requirements a liitle bit or they are ment to be fullfiled in every little detail, ie: 3mo USCE required but you have only 1 mo or this failed attempt thing with otherwise stellar scores? Do they tend to look at the candidate big picture wise, or make a little checklists, when they put marks near every fullfiled requirement, and after you are clear with those, then they start reading your PS, CV and LORs

Its really all about money, why waste hard $$ on programs, which bc of one little criterion wont even look at your PS

Other thing that interests me is J1 visa sponsoring programs. I came across this statement that sometimes you can talk J1 sponsoring program into H1 sponsoring. Is it really possible? I mean should I even bring up this subject during the interview or is it so unlikely that I should not even bother? Did anyone heard about IMG persuading J1 university IM program into H1 sponsoring?

hey elmo
on your first q, pd's may be flexible about screening criteria (i know of people who didnt have the required usce but matched anyway). i'm not sure if they will be equally ok with the no. of attempts. i guess it will vary from program to program and the profile of your competitors.

as to the second. i too have heard of this, but i dont know of individual cases.

hope this helps.
