im just really frustrated! this is my second time studying for this exam, and honestly i thought the first would have been it. but anyways, i've been studying for 3 months now and i've schedualed my exam for next month, but i just can't seen to study anymore! im getting really frustrated! i'll try to do questions, but then i'll get tired after a few blocks, and then i'll try to read notes and stuff but i feel like i am not being really productive. i am scared also because i have less than a month before my exam and i'm losing my momentum. i need some advice, i don't know what to do

It is quite natural to be anxious at this stage. Do NBME.If u get a good score you will be confident for exam. If u get a low score it will tell u where u need to work.

Good luck

you know what i think you are stressed out. take a week off. go to the beach, go mountain climbing, go shopping, get a new haircut, get a manicure, pedicure, whole body works. relax with your boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse. watch movies, go to the mall and just look around. go to the gym.

in short, do everything that is not related to medicine for a couple days. then come back and face this demon which we have to kill once and for all. that is when you want to assess yourself to see where you stand. dont be afraid of a low score. you will be amazed taht you will even score pass mark (like me. i did kaplan small assessment and actually got 75%!!! was i surprised!!!).

once you get your score, good or bad, sit down and assess yourself and than youcan move on.

good luck

thanks guys for advice. i want to take the nbme again, but i just can't do it, mentally or physically. im just too stressed. so i think im going to your advice, and take a break a few days. see the thing i just went home to see my family a few weeks. i was there for a week, so i feel like i already had my 'time off time'. when i was there, i didnt do any studying. so i guess i just feel guilty going out now. but i'll try this advice, see what happens...!

yes, the difference is that this time no guilt trips. no books nothing whatsoever. just a time out. you will feel refreshed. doesnt have to be a whole week just a couple days may be sufficient.

i wish i could be with my mom now. i know i will feel better. she has this way about her to make me feel i am the greatest and the best thing that happened after sliced bread!!!

Hi rm,

I'll tell u what I do when I'm in similar situation. On the days when the going is reaaaally tough I break my study goals into small chunks,as small as solving 5 mcqs at a stretch!

After finishing them I would congratulate myself, feel good abt myself. Then go to the next set of 5 and the repeat the same cycle

It's something like this

very small goal... feel happy.. very small goal...feel happy.

After few such cycles, a strong force of habit takes over and in no time you would have completed a good part of ur study time.

Then you could build on the momentum of positive reinforcement and hopefully fall into a state of flow and neat little rhythm.

It may not be so easy as it sounds .perhaps u could give it a try.Good Luck

I will make it simple.
I am a US medical student.
The people in the class above us repeat one thing.

THIS IS THE BIGGEST TEST OF YOUR LIFE.

They say 90% of people walking around the wards are not happy with their score.
Work harder.

hey guys thanks for all the positive feedback and great advice! i took a half a day off and just watched a movie, and i've started sleeping early again--no more staying up till 3 or 4am. it def. helps to relax once in awhile. anyways, i took the nbme again, and scored a 430. im pretty thrilled since im planning on taking my exam this month, with this score it puts me in a safe position. anyways, thanks for the awesome advice and good luck to ya'll!
